I cut the mesh out. It bothers my son, so he asked if I could remove it. No underwear under it, but he's 5.5, lol.

@bluestriped bee: I am guessing a ms would know when it's getting twisted and fix it right away way before it got to that point. It's just that a really little boy wouldn't realize that it's a problem at first.

I don't have boys so won't ever be an issue for us! But Dh wears swim trunks without boxers and has never had an issue.

this is the first summer my son hasn't needed to wear a swim diaper and we have him wear his underwear under his suit.

@LBee: I do wonder why men don't have this issue when they wear swim trunks. I'm thinking it's a larger piece of mesh for men and the entanglement issue is reduced. My DH actually wears boxers under his swim trunks so maybe this won't be an issue for us because our son might always wear a diaper or underwear underneath it.

I wonder if the swim trunks that caused this incident wasn't sewn near the bottom near the legs to keep the mesh in place. Maybe that's why there was a risk of entanglement. Maybe it comes down to how the swim trunks were made.

@HappyBaker: Yeah, I have a while before my son is out of diapers. But if my DH wears boxers under his swim trunks maybe we'll have my son wear underwear.

I understand her wanting to caution other parents, but I would hate for this to be my 5 minutes of fame if I were this little boy. She could have at least requested to stay anonymous or not provided PICTURES.

I will not be cutting it out. I know someone who zipped his penis in the zipper of his pants (just wasn't paying attention), I will still allow my son to wear zippered pants. Pretty sure the odds of the mesh entaglement happening are fairly rare (confirmed by article as well).

Instead of cutting the mesh out, you also have the option of them wearing underwear under the suit.

Ouch! I never understood why there is mesh even in baby bathing suits, when they will have a diaper on underneath!

Ouch! Poor boy!

I wonder if I'll cut the mesh out, make them wear underwear or leave it be.
