Me at 7 months.

I tried to break LO1 of the habit when we sleep trained but she would just fall asleep during our last nursing session no matter how early I did it. I gave up on that battle.

We did until it didn't work anymore. At 2.5ish I didn't really have enough milk to make her nurse long enough to fall asleep. She weaned at almost 3. It was great for us. I've never understood why it's such a taboo if you want to and it works!

I still nurse to sleep sometimes at 21 months, but usually that only works for naps. more often, she falls asleep on her own in the crib now (yay!) but it's been a gentle process of getting here there

@twodoghouse: we still nurse to sleep, but usually she'll stop nursing before she's totally asleep but now she says "crib" when she's ready to lay down  it's actually easier for dh to put her to sleep though--with me she keeps popping up and wanting me to hold her, but when it's time for "dada rock," she lets dh put her in the crib and then he either pats her or sits in the glider next to the crib while she falls asleep. this only really started working in the last month but it's soooo much better than the endless rocking!

I stopped nursing before bed a week ago (13 months) and it was actually so easy! We're weaning and it was natural. I asked if he wanted to nurse and he didn't take out his pacifier, so I figured he was all set. We just read books and snuggled and I turned on his projector and white noise and sang a song. He's been going down for naps without nursing since 10 months though.

Enjoy your continued snuggles!

2.5 years old and going strong! We've never had a problem with naps or bedtime, why would I stop? Haha. By now, he can go to sleep at night without napping, it just takes a little longer.

For those who nursed their LOs to sleep past 4 months, did you find that baby started waking in the MOTN and would only be soothed back to sleep by nursing (even if perhaps they didn't need the feed)?

We faced that struggled with LO1 (starting around 4-5 months) so I had to push nursing earlier in our bedtime routine... trying to figure out what to do with LO2. I love nursing him to sleep though.

I was part of that club for months with DD... it stopped working when she was about 13 months. She grew out of it on her own, BUT we switched over to giving her a bottle of warm cows milk every night during lullabies until she was 2 :meh:

I nursed my little guy to sleep (or until extremely drowsy) until I weaned him at 19 months. Dad took over for the first few weeks post weaning and it went better than I expected. I needed to be out of sight at first & dad would read stories / rock a little until very tired. The first several weeks after weaning dad stayed in the room until he was completely asleep (shushing to reassure he was ok).

My thoughts were always keep doing what works until it doesn't and then figure it out :-)

Me! Not too worried, DS grew out of this habit around 9 months, and I'm seeing signs that DD (now 6 months) will be able to, when she's ready. Right now it's so much quicker and easier than anything else I can try!

@twodoghouse: I kept trying to nurse DS to sleep but he was still awake after nursing. So I'd put him in his crib and lie down (the crib is next to my bed). And then I just waited till he fell asleep  It took him an hour sometimes, but he wasn't crying, just partying and playing. I kind of dread this phase, but it passes and he's a decent sleeper now.

@twodoghouse: I ended up weaning when we decided to potty train and he was 2.5 and I was ready to wean. The first couple nights were hard and he still asks sometimes, but lots of snuggles compensate. We offered a sippy of water which helped a little.

@sarac: @Applesandbananas: @Kemma: For those of you who nursed your LOs to sleep for a long time, how did you ever stop? Was it when you weaned completely? Or did your LO just decide not to nurse one night? We've done sleep training before, but when they are nursing to sleep so fast and well, it's hard to see that as an option we'd go back to?

My twins are almost 21 months and I still tandem nurse them to sleep for naps and nighttime. We used to be able to lay them down without nursing all the way to sleep, but somehow that totally broke down and we are back to nursing completely to sleep. I find it cozy and relaxing, (especially at naptime when I just want to snuggle them and fall asleep under them!) but I also worry that we will never be able to stop!
