I assume they are moving her so she doesn't have to transition to a new teacher and then a new classroom all in a few months - I think its a great idea!

Our old DCP did something similar with DS - they moved DS up about 2 months early so he wasn't being moved right when his new baby sister was born - it was so nice to have him settled in a new room before that

This place sounds amazing and I think the transition sounds perfect. I teach preschool gymnastics (so not quite the same) but I love to move kids together (just moved my son and another boy up together), and early if something like this was happening.

Did they say why they are recommending the early transition? My daughter was often transitioned early and it's worked out well for us. I would recommend it as long as it's for the right reasons (where she is developmentally).

It's definitely a huge challenge to keep highly qualified teachers in childcare centers. The pay is awful, even with advanced degrees. The centers are usually privately funded and to raise pay they would have to raise tuition, which can only go so high to still be affordable. It's so tough on everyone involved :(

I would go ahead and move her! It would be one less big transition and they wouldn't recommend it if they didn't think she was ready :)

I think it make sense to move her up....

If you don't, she had to get used to the new teacher and then in a few months move up anyways to the 3 yr old room? I would just go for a single transition!

@lilteacherbee: totally agree! I'm excited for the teacher. She has a special needs child and I know this is something she has been pursuing for some time. She's going to do so great.

I think that's a great plan! I used to teach at a daycare in the 3 year old room and we had kids move up early all the time. It was usually just fine!

And I was one of those teachers that left for the school system. :silly: Teacher pay is awful in our state, but it's definitely better than daycare wages!

We moved our daughter to her new daycare in January. It's a great center where most of the teachers have higher education. The negative thing we are finding is sometimes those teachers get better offers....like from our local school system. My daughter's teacher is leaving for a great job as a special ed teacher in our local school system. I'm so happy for her but so disappointed for my kid, she loves that teacher so much.

Related - the director called me today to tell me personally about the teacher leaving. She suggested moving our daughter up to the 3's Preschool room the next week. So, they'll move her up 2 months before her 3rd birthday. I am thinking it's a good idea. What do you think?

Notes: my kid hates change. They can transition slowly. She already gets to spend some time with the 3's teachers, one of whom always asks me when she's going to get to have her in her classroom. She can be transitioned with her friend from her class. All of these things make me want to do it.
