It definitely works DD was asleep soon into the book within a couple of days of us reading it, however we haven't read it in months now, she got bored of the same book every night and protested it. I think she also figured out it made her sleepy, lol

I think this is based on principles of hypnotism and the power of suggestive language/actions or something like that.

This blew up in some FB groups I'm in a while ago and I was interested into trying it but then once I found out it's related to hypnotism I was like ehh..

@Jass: I just said we were going to listen to a story. There's no pictures, we just listen. And I laid down next to him and turned it on. But we are moving bedtime up from
10pm to 730 so he's been, understandably not very sleepy at lights out so he still had trouble calming down for the whole first reading-45 minutes or so? Then he calmed down and actually listened to the woman and he was out in 10 minutes. She said it would get quicker after the first night. Tomorrow night I think we will wait until he's gotten a little more settled before I start it. He did say he didn't want to listen to that story, but when I turned off he said no turn it on .

Just bumping this because our sleep consultant recommended it for our toddler who has a hard time falling asleep. She recommended the audio version on audible (bought on Amazon). And.... It worked!!! It took a while but half way through the second reading (a man reads it then a woman), he conked out. The earliest he's gone to bed in like a year! Hooray!

We just got it this week! I didn't think it would put my son to sleep, to this day only nursing will do that. Plus he's very young and it's a really wordy book. It does relax him, though, we get through 2 or 3 pages at a time.

Okay.... I bought this today and just read it to E. I really struggled to keep a straight face.... it reads like a dodgy relaxation CD! You have to insert your childs name into it and every line has "go to sleep NOW" somewhere in it! "Once upon a time there was a rabbit GO TO SLEEP NOW Elliott". :silly: It was like an attempt at amateur hypnosis and I felt quite dastardly trying it!!

She's not asleep yet.... but she's still lying down (waving her legs about) and it is the calmest I've ever seen her at bedtime. As I was leaving the room she said "I go sleep now".

Hmm.....

It didn't work. It was on YouTube for free a week after it came out so LO listened to it. It was boring and sleep inducing but not enough to do the trick.

@californiadreams: @Applesandbananas: Oh that's terrible! I still want to experiment with it, just because it's kind of an interesting concept, but I did read a few reviews where parents had similar experiences.

I haven't ordered it but I've used some of the principles on Charlie, and it's really worked! I yawn a lot and it's contagious to him and he falls asleep faster.

i ordered it because i thought why not. if it doesn't work, it's just another book to add to his collection. Well, to say it didn't work, would be an understatement. The book says your kid has to lie down while you read to them. First time i pulled it out, he insisted on holding the book himself and turning the pages. He also asks a ton of questions about the story and pictures and will repeatedly say the same question until i respond, so i was constantly interrupted while trying to read it. And then because the pages are so long, he kept asking "are you done reading the page mommy?" by the time i finally got through it, he was wide awake and our bedtime routine took longer than usual as he was over tired. He then insisted on holding the book in the dark (which he has never done with any other book), and took longer than usual to fall asleep. The whole experience was comical and i have not tried it since.

Have you heard of this book? It's supposed to be a sure fire way to get your kiddo to fall asleep. I'm thinking of ordering it and testing it out. DS is pretty smart about knowing when we're trying to trick him into falling asleep, though.
