We've never had a relish tray. We usually do small appetizers, though. I've done prosciutto wrapped melon, marinated mozzarella, roasted asparagus, baked brie, soup in shot glasses, and mini ceviches in the past.

@swurlygurl: then I'd probably do an Italian style antipasto, with small cubes of cheese, cured meats, marinated mozzarella balls, strips of roasted red peppers, pickled vegetables and grissini.

Or you could do crostini instead!

Our relish tray is pretty basic veggies - celery, carrots, cauliflower, pickled beets - but its always demolished because of Grandma's tuna dip recipe (which is really tuna, cream cheese, mayo, some chopped celery, and pickle relish all whipped together into a smooth dip). We also serve a bowl of Ruffles on the side to dip too. We have to refill the relish tray twice because of that damn addicting dip.

@looch: Typically, yes. DH's family doesn't touch the veggies though, so at the end of the day there were old dried out carrots/celery/broccoli and crusty ranch. That was before I married-in and became in charge of the relish tray. I put my own spin on it to mix it up a bit. One year I made it a fruit relish tray (kiwi, mangoes, pineapple, grapes, strawberries), another year I did meats/cheeses/olives/nuts, another year I did 'different' veggies (zucchini slices, green beans, snap peas, mushrooms) with different flavors of hummus.

@blackbird: Love those! I'd probably eat them all before they made it on the tray ;)

@jetsa: Green onions?! I've never heard of anyone snacking on green onions

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I don't know that I've ever seen Brazil nuts in my stores... those would be a great add! And <3 sun dried tomatoes!

I like English cucumber, carrots, red/yellow/orange bell pepper, radishes and grape tomatoes uncooked. I like string beans, zucchini, summer squash and asparagus spears steamed then cooled down.

I won't go near uncooked brocolli or cauliflower. Not a fan of celery because most people don't take the time to pull of all the strings.

For Thanksgiving I've been tasked with the relish tray. I love to cook, so this is always annoying to me, but I try to get past that and make it fun. I usually get pretty into it and put together a nice spread, but this year I'm just too mentally worn out from K that I haven't thought about it at all.

So now I'd just rather put together a tray of favorites. What are your favorite items that you actually eat from a relish tray?.

Some of our faves are: mini pickles, olives and tomatoes.
