This is going to sound pretty crazy (and stinky), but apple cider vinegar. I put it on a cotton pad and put that between my cheeks. I decided to try it since it's helped me with zits, warts, and other ailments. It makes my bum smell like vinegar but it also shrunk my external hemmorhoids by about half. I usually do it before I take a shower. Like i'll get up in the morning, do it, eat breakfast, etc, then shower it off. Could probably do a sitz bath with it too but haven't.

Chewing on a piece of raw ginger took the stinging away. (My MIL kept bugging me to try it, and it just seemed too weird to work. But, it did!)

@sarac: @blackbird: Go to the doctor! Seriously! There's more on the recent thread I started, but there's no need to be in pain. Surgery is a pretty extreme treatment, from what my doctor said.

I have actually dealt with this a ton after giving birth - at 19 months it's gotten worse, not better. I try to minimize foods that slow down my digestion, not to strain while using the restroom, and to use preparation H pretty much daily.

It sucks. That's pretty much my one bad post partum issue, besides the stretch marks, which I don't mind so much.

I have them but as a result of a digestive disorder though. Best thing I did was ask my doctor for a prescription for a corticosteroid cream you quite literally squirt up your bum. It has helped me through some horrible flares. Tucks pads help too but the steroid cream helped shrink them. And stool softeners twice a day.

Ok, now I'm officially embarassed and will slink away now. Can't wait to see what pregnancy and delivery have in store for destroying what remains of my dignity.

I take tucks pads and fold them, then stick them between my cheeks way up where the hemmorhoid is. Mine still bleed when I go to the bathroom, so I have to ask my dr about that in a couple weeks. I know they can require surgery sometimes :(

@MamaMoose: I did the same thing, and it helped a ton!

I had these SO bad after giving birth, and they lasted for months. Apparently you can't cure them, but you just have flare ups, especially if you get constipated. So the best thing to do is to not let that happen ;)

Yep, I had them really bad postpartum. It hurt to sit on the couch when LO was a few weeks old. I went to the doc and got suppositories. Best decision ever!

I used Colace for a long time to keep things soft. Fiber 1 cereal and fiber bars are your friend. Sticking and leaving Tucks pads between the cheeks felt nice. Kegels can increase blood flow and help the roids shrink, supposedly. Plus they will help with plenty of other problems!

Good lord, yes. My hemorrhoids were worse than anything that happened vaginally, worse than the stitches, worse than anything ever. I had really good luck with the Earth Mama Bottom Balm, actually! It worked way better than Prep H for me. I also would put Tucks on my giant maxi pads. And stool softeners.

If it makes you feel better, they were pretty well under control by about 4 weeks pp? Maybe 6.

They snuck up on me HARD 3 weeks PP. I was totally unprepared for the awfulness.

I used Prep H wipes, Prep H cream, tucks pads, stool softeners daily, and lots of Dermoplast spray.

Stay hydrated! Don't strain when pooing. Eat lots of fiber.

This sounds weird... but just do it. You will thank me later. Take two of the wipes and put prep H cream on them. Then fold them in half and leave them between your cheeks for a while. The nurses told me to do this and I looked at them like they were crazy. But, it works!

Omg I had them really bad after labor! They gave me some witch hazel pads which I felt helped more than anything. I also used the ice peri pads they gave me and they gave me a lot of relief also. And suppositories. Not fun and they feel kind of gross, but once you reach a certain level of misery you quit caring!!!

Anyone wind up with hemorrhoids pp? These things are no joke, I'm feeling pretty terrible at the moment! I just started using preparation h cooling wipes, which are relieving but not curing... Any other suggestions?

This post has got to take the cake for the most awkward hb post I've ever written but I need some suggestions...
