@Mrsbells: I like explanations! I just don't like it when they don't add up, like you mentioned...

@mrbee: I find that I was also left with more questions after reading this.
To be honest I really dont like when people or the media try to explain why a person commits an awful crime. Because it never adds up and its never justified.

@bluestriped bee: not exactly about a victim, but here is a great response to the RS article: http://thatswhatshesaidboston.com/2013/07/dear-rolling-stone/

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: The article tries very hard to humanize him and show him as a victim, which I totally disagree with. I cannot imagine how all the real victims feel reading the article.

And I agree with @mrbee, the article didn't have much insight on how he was radicalized. It really didn't provide any new information that wasn't available in the immediate aftermath. I think it is disgusting that Rolling Stone published the story and put his glamour shot on the cover.

I'm going to be stubborn and not even read the article. :P

Anyone have a link to an article written about a survivor? I will read that over RS.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I don't feel sorry for him. He is a monster. He's a murderer. Even if he did just go along with it because he was scared for his life. :(

@rachiecakes: With what I read so far, I agree he was influenced by his brother. I have 25% more to read when I get home.

The article does a great job of humanizing Jahar. He doesn't come off as a monster. I don't know if I like that or not yet.

@mrbee: @mrsjazz: I really get the impression (from everything I've seen and heard first person, to things that I've seen in the media) that he was a kid that was scared of his brother. I know he's "innocent until proven guilty" but his brother murdered three young men in Waltham in 2011, cold blood, slit their throats. They're still unsure if Dzohkhar was there but his DNA was (could be from his brother). He probably thought his brother would do that to him, too.
He didn't train the way his brother trained (MMA, etc.), he wasn't as strictly religious as Tamerlan (full beard, radical outbursts during mosque). His brother kept shooting and fighting until he was gunned down, Dzohkhar ran (over his brother first) down the street and hid.
I'm thankful that it was Dhohkhar that survived and not Tamerlan. Tamerlan would've taken more lives with him if he could've.
(All my opinion, obviously. I can get a bit heated thinking about these two morons... and then just really sad, for everyone)
And his brother was all he had.

(ETA here's the link to the Waltham murder story: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/mounting-evidence-boston-bombers-involved-2011-triple-murder/story?id=19151271&page=2)

@mrsjazz: I had trouble making it through the article... it was really painful for me. They didn't really have too much insight into how he was radicalized either, I thought... so I left with more questions than answers.

I'm actually surprised we don't have more radicalized terrorists in the states. It's really scary to think about how such a seemingly normal kid was radicalized.

@mrbee: I read the article. It was weird to read the quotes from all of his friends about how he was just an average Cambridge kid. Seems like they are all still struggling and trying to come to grips with the Jahar the knew vs. the one he showed all of America when he bombed the marathon with his brother.
