Oh no! I'm so sorry. I'm really hoping that 6 weeks is the worst case scenario and that it will be back before then.

@pui: Yea I just wonder if its not worth starting to look into. Best case you spend the next six weeks starting the process and you get your results back and you are immune and you can drop everything and start treatment. However, like you said if for some reason you still aren't immune, you would at least have the process starting for moving forward without the immunization.

@T.H.O.U.: I have no idea... honestly. I guess I'd start at a Service Canada office? Arguing with Health Canada is not even something I would really consider doing because it will probably take way, way longer to go through this with them than it would be even if I have to take the vaccine again.

@LovelyPlum: I've already done the research on it. I took more of a risk when I took BCP that was "only" 98% effective. The chance of contracting Rubella in Canada while pregnant is less than a percent. It's much more likely I'd be in a car accident or even stabbed while pregnant, and I am sure the government won't be putting me under house arrest when I do become pregnant for the safety of the unborn child.

Also at this point I've already had the vaccine twice. What is the point of doing it again if I am still not immune? Chances are I'd never be immune. If there is no point in doing it, why do I have to wait for these results to come back at all?

It's not really my RE's fault because, yeah, they have to follow Health Canada's rules and if they don't they could get in trouble. My beef is with Health Canada for forcing people to get vaccines before they can receive fertility treatments.

@pui: I think it's insane that they are making you wait this long, but I wonder if the laws are based on a liability issue? As in, if the doctors let you pursue treatment without immunity, and you actually caught it, that they would somehow be liable? I know it seems like a long shot, but the diseases are still out there. Technically, measles has been eradicated in the western hemisphere, but it's still here:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/12/05/measles-cdc-vaccine-vaccinations-disease/3878375/

Either way, I can't imagine how frustrating it is. I hope that your results are in soon, and that they are good, and you can move on to worrying about much happier things.

@Ginger333: Well apparently if you opt out of the Rubella vaccine for your daughter when she is 4, and 20 years later she is having trouble getting pregnant, the government will make her get it anyway.

Isn't it crazy that the government can basically take away my reproductive rights? They are literally preventing me from getting pregnant until I am immune or get a vaccine a certain number of times. I have no other choice if I want to be treated by public health care (that I pay for out of my taxes, thank you) unless I try and fight Health Canada and how would I even do that? My only other option is to try and get private care, but we're so deep in this now going somewhere else seems like another step backwards.

I think I should be able to choose to take the "risk" of trying to conceive even if I am not immune to Rubella. I've already had the vaccine twice, I've done my due diligence as far as I am concerned. After all, it's not like they make every potential mother go through this for the "right" to get pregnant, only those suffering from IF apparently. We live in a country where I could get an abortion whenever I want completely covered by the government, but I can't receive fertility treatments until I get a shot a certain number of times because the risk of a rare virus is evidentially too great. What the heck kind of logic is this?

It's absolutely insane that they're even making you get the vaccination at all IMO.

@looch: Honestly, I would so much rather pay for private insurance and have more power over what doctors I see and get results faster. It's not like we don't pay for the service we get. My husband and I pay a LOT of taxes (we just sent the government a 27k check, and that doesn't even count what we pay for property taxes, HST, ectectect) and yet we get slow, bad medical service. I get that it is nice that people who don't/can't work get health care (even if it is slow and crappy), but if I had it my way I would pay less taxes and pay for better quality health care elsewhere.

It shouldn't have taken 7 months for me just to be diagnosed with PCOS, considering that is the #1 cause of the symptoms I had. I had an ultrasound done months ago that came back, and I quote, "Completely unremarkable" and I was told I definitely did not have PCOS. Well 6 months later another doctor did an ultrasound and saw PCOS right away. After cross checking with blood work, it was confirmed I definitely had PCOS. Someone dropped the ball there, and their mistake cost me months of time while my condition got worse.

The same thing happened to my MIL. She started suffering from memory problems 3 years ago. Multiple doctors told her she was just stressed, it was just a hormone imbalance, ect. She kept getting worse and worse. Finally FIL paid thousands of dollars out of pocket for a private clinic that diagnosed her with Alzeimer's in a MONTH. All those years she went without treatment.

Another case is my sister, who suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder. They have some great publicly funded clinics to help people like her, but unfortunately the line up for them is years and years long. Meanwhile my sister had attempted suicide more times than we can count and was suffering from a severe eating disorder. We couldn't wait, so my dad again paid thousands of dollars for a special psychiatrist who was able to use his influence to get her at the top of that list.

So basically, we pay SO MUCH money for poor medical care. It still ends up that people with more money get better service (Imagine if my FIL or my dad didn't have the money to pay for extra medical care? Someone with a low income would have been completely screwed.) and everyone has to get the same crappy care. The government tends to do things the worst possible way.

@ChitownRo: Please reread. I was told to get the blood test to check for immunity 4 weeks after the vaccine. I waited those four weeks and then got the blood test. Now it has been 2 weeks since that and they are saying it could be another month wait to find out if I am now immune. This is not waiting for the vaccine to take effect, this is waiting for the results of whether or not I am immune to come back. So yes, they are telling me the processing could take 6 weeks.

@Dandelion: @pui: I just had my baby this week and after my OB looked over my blood work, he saw that I no longer had immunity to reubella, even though I too was vaccinated as a child. Therefore, he revaxed me with the MMR vax and said I should definitely not become pregnant in the next month (as if that would even be possible!) as the risks are unknown. The MMR I received was a live vaccination, he said if it were not a live vaccination it would not be a concern for pregnancy. But I feel for you, six weeks to get lab results seems extreme! Even with socialized medicine here, I get lab results within days! I really hope you get some positive answers soon.

@looch: i know you didn't ask me, but as a Canadian i'll admit i would want private but that's because i can afford it. Alberta wanted to go for a two-tier system but there was a lot of backlash. Not sure if you're aware, but there are private clinics available for certain treatments/surgeries.
