@travellingbee: He got all feral on us and was hissing and spitting! Then, he stopped, licked his paws and was like, "oh, hi guys, what's up? Pet me!"

@travellingbee: it wouldn't hurt! If there is a possible issue, it's better to catch it early, I think. And if nothing else, the doctor can just reassure you that it's normal and nothing to be worried about. :)

@mrskc: Mine is teething too so I wonder if it is related. Although he really didn't seem awake at all.
@Honeybee: Our ped appointment isn't for another 2 months. Do you think I should call them?
@Dandelion: Ha Ha! I didn't know cats could have bad dreams. LOL
@Smurfette: Oh I hope this doesn't continue that long. I don't want it to EVER happen again!!!

That is so scary!

Chloe did this as an infant, and it stopped around 6 or 7 months. It's started back up again, though!

My son did this a few times around that age except he was awake. He just wailed and wailed, even in my arms while I rocked him. Nothing could calm him until he eventually just stopped crying and fell asleep. I chalked it up to teething.

That's scary!

My cat did that once! I learned never to wake him up again if he's quietly mewing in his sleep.

So scary!! I would have been really freaked out too... I'm glad he snapped out of it. Maybe bring it up to the pediatrician for ways to handle it if it happens again? That being said, I hope it doesn't happen again!

I don't have any experience or suggestions, but I just wanted to say OMG your story gave me chills. I don't even know if I believe in posession/demons etc. but I know I would have been freaking out! Glad it wasn't anything serious and that he nuzzled right back to sleep

Oh that's so scary, especially so young! DD did this around 12 months old, and it lasted for 45 min, except her eyes were open - she just seemed out of it.

I'm sorry you had to go through that - it's not fun at all. Hopefully your LO will learn to roll back over soon (at least to the side) and you won't have to worry about it.

My daughter used to do this. She started at around 3 months and fully stopped around 6 or 7 months. She was still asleep but would scream and could not be consoled. It really bothered me, but she always seemed fine after an "episode"; as soon as she actually woke up, the screaming would stop.

You might bring it up at your next pedi appointment. Ours said it's not uncommon and isn't harmful, and with time DD grew out of it. Our doctor did a lot to reassure us, though.

DS is 4 months and has been rolling onto his tummy in his crib lately. Unfortunately he doesn't know how to roll back onto his back, so he sometimes wakes up upset. Last night at 12:45 am, we woke to him fussing on his tummy. DH went to go turn him to prevent him from fully freaking out. When he did, DS freaked out and began screaming like I've never heard a baby cry. He tried to comfort him to no avail and brought him to me to maybe nurse him. Nope. He wouldn't latch and continued screaming and crying and arching his back. I could barely hold him he was flailing so much. The whole time, his eyes were closed and the weird thing was, he still seemed asleep!!!! I started to freak out a bit. It was like he was possessed or something! This went on for about 5 minutes. The more we tried to calm him, the more he freaked. Last ditch effort, I thought I would take him outside since that often calms him, but before I got there, he suddenly "woke up". He opened his eyes and instantly stopped crying. He looked around confused and then just nuzzled into me. WTF???

I tried to look it up and it seems it might have been a night terror-- caused by my DH disturbing a transition in deep sleep. Never seen or heard of anything like this, especially so young! Needless to say, we were too freaked out to sleep for a while after that, even though the baby went right back to sleep!
