i knew i didn't want to try until after DD turned 2 due to financial and logistical reasons. we were planning on starting TTC when they would have been exactly 3 years apart for work related reasons... and then i got KU 2 months earlier than that! so definitely not in our hands as much as we wanted to plan. but i'm happy with the age gap.... the timing could have been better, but we've (i've) accepted it and we're so excited!

For a long time I didn't ovulate since I was breastfeeding after my son was born. I went almost a full year with no periods. When my period came back, I knew I wasn't ready to TTC, but I also didn't want to use hormonal birth control and I was scared of IUDs. DH and I used condoms, but a few times we "forgot." Anyway, I ended up getting pregnant when my son was 17 months old. It was a surprise, but I was happy that they weren't spaced any closer together than that. They will be a little over 2 years apart.

Definitely weren't planning on an age gap that small, but I love seeing them together

Um i got a BFP yesterday... it took us 6 months to conceive LO1 so we were "planning" to get KU this fall. One shot the first month without protection at the absolute wrong time and here we are.. go figure :) If this works out they'll be almost exactly 3 years apart.

I wanted them about 20 months apart. For some reason, that is the distance I wanted. 18 months felt too close and I didn't want the baby too close to DS's birthday. When we tried, it's what I got - exactly 20 months. I'm not as certain with #3.

I got pregnant with my twins a few weeks after bringing my oldest home from the hospital. So my three boys are 8.5 months apart. With my daughter we figured we didn't want anything smaller than 2 years or so but we still didn't know if I could get pregnant (it took nearly three years to get pregnant the first time) we had one night when we didn't protect before we officially started trying and that was it. My oldest son was 2 weeks shy of being 3 and the twins were 2 and 3 months when she was born. I agree with @travelgirl1: so much is not in our hands.

It took over a year and a miscarriage to get pregnant with LO1, so I figured that whenever I got my period back, we would start trying. That happened at 11 months pp and I got pregnant that cycle. It completely shocked me that it happened so fast! LO2 was conceived right around his first birthday and they'll be just shy of 21 months apart.

D was dead-set against having a second, but changed his mind just before E turned 2.5. It took over a year to get pregnant with Ev so we figured they'd be at least 4 years apart, but I got my IUD out in Feb and got a BFP in March, so depending on when baby shows up they'll be 3 yrs and about 4 months apart, which is pretty ideal for me, I think :)

It took us 6+ months to get pregnant with LO1 so we started trying after she turned 1. Got pregnant the first cycle! A little sooner than we had anticipated so it was kind of a shock, but we also saw the pros/cons to both (having them closer or farther) and overall are really excited to be DONE and move on with our lives (we do NOT enjoy pregnancy in this house.)

LO1 has just turned 1, and I was in the one and done camp. Then I was pregnant and felt that my family didn't feel complete without another. I miscarried and wasn't able to move on for some time. When I was ready, I conceived on our first try. My kids are 2.5 years apart.

We started trying a couple months before LO1's first birthday because DH was anxious to get the newborn/infant days over with. Didn't work out then life changes put us on trying a few months before LO1's second birthday. I think I'll be much happier with this spacing.

We said we would start trying as soon as my period came back and we did and got pregnant, but I lost that baby, which would have been a 2 year 2 months age gap. As it is, it will be just over 2.5 years gap. We would like a shorter gap between #2 and #3 but so much is not in our hands so we'll see.

I wanted time to myself after being pregnant and nursing DS1 for a year. We wanted at least a two year age gap too. We started trying the summer before DS' 2nd bday (he's a late fall baby), had one CP and then got pregnant with DS2, they'll be just over 2.5 years apart.

I didn't want to start trying til I weaned LO1, which happened around 18 months. We started trying then because I really wanted a spring/summer baby. That pregnancy didn't stick, and then I just wanted to be pregnant ASAP, so our age gap wasn't larger than 3 years. We'll get exactly 3 years. If we go for #3, I think I will again aim for a spring/summer baby, but with a 3.5 year gap.

We planned to start trying after C turned two. Our timing with her worked out really well for us and we would have been happy with same timing and having them about 3 years apart.

Then we were a little less careful a few months before that and they will be a little less than 2.5 years apart. :silly: I think the spacing will be great for the kids, but I'm a little worried about a winter baby in New England.

...how did you end up with it?

For us, we didn't consider trying again for the first year or so after our firstborn. We were deep in survival mode! Then we gave ourselves a window to try, and to see how it went. If it hadn't worked out in that window, we probably would've waited another year or so before trying for number two!
