I went almost a full year with no periods. When my period came back, I knew I wasn't ready to TTC, but I also didn't want to use hormonal birth control and I was scared of IUDs. DH and I used condoms, but a few times we "forgot." Anyway, I ended up getting pregnant when my son was 17 months old. It was a surprise, but I was happy that they weren't spaced any closer together than that. So my three boys are 8.5 months apart. With my daughter we figured we didn't want anything smaller than 2 years or so but we still didn't know if I could get pregnant (it took nearly three years to get pregnant the first time) we had one night when we didn't protect before we officially started trying and that was it. My oldest son was 2 weeks shy of being 3 and the twins were 2 and 3 months when she was born. We were deep in survival mode! Then we gave ourselves a window to try, and to see how it went. If it hadn't worked out in that window, we probably would've waited another year or so before trying for number two! </p>
