@As Time Goes By: Same here! Ever since I started TTC, alcohol (even wine!) is less attractive to me.

After 6 months TTC, I cut out EVERYTHING imaginable. Even hot/cold foods during certain times of my cycle. But, by 12 months TTC, I was tired of depriving myself...so I gave up on giving up things.

I'll admit I sort of went cray cray with avoiding things. I already eat organic (because I"m convinced I have to if I am TTC) and am pretty picky about household chemicals, but I have since cut out lunch meat, hot baths, and a bunch of other stuff that I like. The hardest has been cutting back on coffee. I rarely drink alcohol, coffee is my vice so that has been really hard.

However, I will admit that I have found myself to be terrified of the microwave the past two months and will either avoid using it at all costs, or I will run out of the room while it is heating. I swear I can literally feel it frying my eggs. SO CRAZY. I was starting to feel super nuts until I saw Dwight try to fry his nuts using a microwave on The Office and then I thought...maybe I"m onto something here....

LOL this TTC business is not as fun as I thought it would be!!

I haven't avoided much... I limited my caffeine intake a couple years ago so that I'm not concerned about and I found I haven't been as interested in alcohol the last couple months (I say as I am enjoying a beer!) so I don't think I had much in my TWW last month. I think some if what you're avoiding is healthy to avoid regardless of being pregnant!

@Leialou: Makes perfect sense to me! Some little part of me just wrap myself in (BPA-free) bubble wrap until I'm pregnant...and then maybe until I'm safely through the 1st trimester! :bummed:

The strangest thing I've avoided is sex. :P It seems counterproductive, but my embryos are already made. The meds mess with my drive and then I'm paranoid in the tww after transfer.

I think I tried to cut out a bunch of odd things to varying degrees of success while ttc (um sugar lasted maybe two hours...) Ultimately though I wound up coming back to a happy middle ground. I am not sure if it makes me more crazy or less to admit that now that I am pregnant I worry a bit more about things like pesticides, plastics and chemicals than I do about a slightly runny yolk in my egg or whether the rule is no soft cheeses or no soft cheeses that aren't pasteurized. I suppose I am lucky though that most of the no-no's while ttc aren't super appealing to me anyway so I really just miss the hot tub after I swim.

I used to be a total crazy and I still have weird things like I won't lift heavy things and ill be more gentle with my body but generally speaking at cycle 5 I've let up on a lot of the obsessiveness.

I did not avoid anything. In fact I consumed a ton o f alcohol during the TWW I got my BFP b/c we were on vacation! I think I'd be too miserable if I'm already cutting out sushi/raw seafood before I even got KU. I miss those things terribly!

Coffee and hot baths, which are two of my fave things!
I've had more of both since being pregnant than in my months of ttc.

I just cannot. I used to when ttc #1 but no longer. I am stuffing sushi into my piehole until I see 2 DARK lines. Cffiene is being cut not for ttc purposes but because I noticed I need more water and less drinks that aren't water.
Id say though that I does make me feel a bit weird to tan, so i've only been spray tanning and being outside, but I haven't actually laid out with tanning oil or gone to a tanning bed in awhile.

i gave up avoiding things i wouldn't otherwise avoid. i remember after a year of giving up tuna fish, i was feeling rebellious & ate some, it was awesome! haha. best tuna sandwich ever! i used to care, but i don't anymore, three years is too long to give up a lot of that stuff for no reason.

So, I've avoided all sorts of things while TCC (or in the TWW), seemingly to no avail.

Alcohol...check.
Sushi (esp. tuna)...check.
Hot tubs...check.
Household chemicals...check.
Strenuous exercise...check.
Gasoline fumes/exhaust...check.
Pesticides...check.

And then things just start getting weird. I've minimized exposure to various chemicals in plastics, chemical sunscreens, and to artificial fragrances (which may or may not contain phthalates). And I have tried to avoid carrying my cell phone close to my body and generally decrease use...although HB has not helped at all with that. :silly:

Let me be clear...I'm pretty sure most of these things (in normal, small to moderate amounts) are nothing to panic over. But sadly, my TTC/IF brain has hijacked some of my common sense and, in the interest of keeping the peace, I've gone along with it.

What have you have avoided while TTC? Do you think this was a mostly-rational decision? Or a crazy TTC impulse?
