my mom did. she got pregnant with me when my brother started solids at 6 months. she nursed him until he was over a year and then he weaned, but that means she was able to breastfeed enough for him for the last 6+ months as neither of us ever had any formula.

I just finished reading LLL's book Adventures in Tandem Nursing and it says that usually by the 5th month of pregnancy your milk changes to colostrum.

My midwife told me it was totally possible to bf through pregnancy, but everyone I've heard from has said their milk dried up at some point. I'd like to bf LO til he's a year, so I'm hoping for a few more months of milk!

I was nursing full time and got my period back when she was about 10 months. I assume I could have gotten pregnant if I tried at that point.

I got pregnant when Lo was 12 months old. Dried up by the time she was 15 months old.

I kept a decent supply until I hit third tri but pretty much all the moms I know IRL dried up sooner than that or their LO weaned because of the change in taste. I would say if bf is important to you to hold off until an age where you would be comfortable weaning.

I heard that but it wasn't possible for me because I dried up sooo fast! I went from producing a lot of milk to barely anything by the 6th or 7th week of my pregnancy. I comfort nursed my LO until she was 9 months old but she drank mostly frozen pumped milk and some formula.

My friend was able to nurse and pump decent amounts up to her 5 month.

Most of the moms I know have lo over a year BUT they are still nursing every 2-4 hours throughout the day and many haven't night weaned. I would say 5-6 moms between my AP & natural moms groups either have or are currently bf'ing through pregnancy.

We're waiting until P is a year JUST to be sure though.

The two people who I know that got pregnant while LO#1 was still nursing had their babies end up self weaning. I've read that the taste of the breastmilk changes so many LOs end up weaning themselves if they're still nursing when their mom gets pregnant. I don't know firsthand though!

A friend of a friend is nursing and she is pregnant, but I don't know how much her son nurses. He's around 18 months I think.

I keep reading that it is "entirely possible" to maintain milk supply and continue to breastfeed while pregnant. But everyone I have ever talked to has said their milk "dried up" and they had to supplement.

Did anyone successfully do it? Know anyone who did?

I am mainly referring to getting pregnant while LO is still young (1 or younger) and relying on breastmilk for nutrients, not just comfort nursing.
