I use these for cleaning: http://www.twistclean.com/eurospongecloth/

They are really great and I just rinse them out in the sink after use. I have one for kitchen stuff and one for bathroom and another for basic around the house cleaning. The only things I won't use reusable for are toilets and raw meat messes. Those get regular paper towels. We've never really had a guest who was going to clean anything so that hasn't been an issue, but I only leave out cloth towels for hand drying in the kitchen and bathroom. Hand drying with paper towels is such a waste and a pet peeve of mine!

We have a roll of paper towels in the kitchen that DH definitely likes to use, but I mostly use towels. If I do use a paper towel, it's usually because I'm drying something clean, but I will put aside those used paper towels and use them for other things, like cleaning the counter or the floors, so it's not wasted. Then, there are things that are too gross for me to use reusable towels on, and those are surfaces like the toilet, so paper comes in handy in those situations! Hahaha.

We use paper towels and paper napkins like crazy. We also use baby wipes for a lot of stuff. So not green.

Guilty.
We use paper napkins (but they are so pretty and festive!) and paper towels. I am really trying to cut down on paper towels though and use certain cloths for wiping and cleaning. I know I will never give up paper napkins... we entertain often and they are just easy to have around.

I bought un paper towels after reading that post too :) my problem is I don't have enough.... Or I just don't wash them often enough so we end up using paper. But I figure were decreasing the amount of paper were using by a lot, ill go maybe a day or two before getting my cloth paper towels back. Eventually I'll buy more though.

I use them for very few things like others have said. If you put them where guests can't see them... they can't use them (and neither can husbands!). We just set out cloth and so that's what everyone uses.

I'm in between. I use them for blotting bacon and for microwaving baked potatoes and for cleaning glass tables. Everything else gets cleaned with dishrags and kitchen towels. Unless it's really gross and I don't want to permanently dirty my towel.

@regberadaisy: We use cloth napkins and some dish towels (the latter in lieu of paper), but we still use a lot of paper. We used to use almost no paper towels, but then LO became a toddler and my stash of old towels/dish rags could not keep up! ;) I second Target as a good source of cloth napkins!

Yeah, I don't really use them. I keep them around to blot bacon. If I'm out, I just use toilet paper for that. Which actually works better, I just feel silly doing it.

We use very few paper towels, we use lots of the ikea cheap dish towels instead. For guests, I just make sure before hand to set out cloth napkins on the table and make sure there are other towels handy, I don't worry too much about it but I also have a very simple "system"-- most towels get used once or twice and then tossed in the laundry so I don't worry about designating what they are for.

I found a nice thick set of cloth napkins at Target and we use those as our everyday napkins (I saw a cool idea of getting each person a napkin ring so they can save it through the day if they aren't too soiled) and I bought a set from Crate and Barrel for nicer dinners. I have a back up set that an aunt bought from goodwill for us too.

@mrs. bird: I've been trying to find nice but inexepnsive dinner napkins forEVER. :(
I might just need to bite the bullet or perhaps find a fabric I like and maybe use witch stitchery.

i almost never use them! if i make bacon, i put a piece on the plate to absorb some of the grease, but i have cloths for cleaning different things. we don't use paper napkins unless we are away from home. DH does like to use paper towels, but i put them in a closet in the bathroom so they aren't as easily accessible to try to deter him from using them =)

@regberadaisy: I would love to do this, however we have 2 cats and their hair always seems to find its way to our cloth towels :( Just one more reason I don't want cats anymore!

So I heard about this today via Mrs Stroller's BLW post. I never thought about it but I'm already 85% there!

Basically it's not using paper towels in your household and replacing them with cloth towels. Technically, there are "un paper towels' sold that are made out of cloth diaper material essentially. I wouldn't pay for it though I have so much washcloths I would just use those. Or make my own, the fabric is so cheap. It doesn't need to be fancy.
We already have designated washcloths for table wipe downs. Towels designated for drying towels. Towels for hand drying etc. We DO have paper towels but honestly we use them only for cleaning the glass table which we can easily have designated towels for those. And it's mainly guests that use the paper towels. When my MIL stayed with us a last year for 2 weeks we went through like a 6pack!!! It takes us like 6 months to go through that!

Anyway, are you a paper towel user or are you a UN paper towel user? ;)
How do you get guests to NOT use paper towels. If you don't keep paper towels do your guests mess up your towel system?
