We have the worlds best sleeper so far, and I'm terrified to discuss it and ruin everything. She was consistently doing seven hour stretches by three weeks, up to ten consistently by 7 weeks and last night she went for 12. She's 12.5 weeks. We have a bedtime routine which we've done since bringing her home pretty much, but really we just lucked out beyond reason.

@chibee: sorry just saw your question - he's 12wk, and was 9.5wk first time STTN. Now I'll be quiet about it again as to not jinx myself :P

My LO didn't sleep through the night even once until 11.5 months. And since then, it's been on and off. Now days, she usually has one wakeup in the early morning, around 4:30 am. Last night for some reason, she was up probably 6 times but my inlaws are visiting and they slept in her room, so I didn't know about it until this morning, haha :silly:

But from 3-11.5 months old, LO would wake up anywhere from 2-6 times a night.

Fun Times!

My lo sttn from 2-3 months then started waking 2-3 times a night again. We did sleep training at 11.5 months because she was waking up for hours in the night crying and wouldn't fall back asleep.

farting rainbows, HAHA! Oh, i always think of STTN as 9pm-6am or so, but she was doing 5 hour stretches by the time she was a month and a half old or so. She was about 5 months old or just shy of when she full on STTN for the first time. Maybe 4.5 months. And it was just once a week, then twice a week, and regressed, and finally at 6 months I sleep trained her and she has pretty much STTN since. I woke up a LOT in the first month she was STTN. It was like I couldn't settle or believe it or get comfortable. After a month or so of finally STTN myself, I felt like a human again

2 weeks old and it was an 8 hour stretch. I freaked out and thought she had died. She was pretty consistent after that and we going a full 14 hours straight with no feeding by 6 months. It was beautiful.

when my LO was 3 weeks, she slept 8 hours. it was on my birthday and it felt like magic. i did nothing different that night! she would sleep long stretches (not that long) off and on, but didn't STTN consistently until we ST'd at 12.5 months.

Do you mean not a single wake up the entire night or the definition for STTN for their age? I was bedsharing up until a few weeks ago with my 15 wk DS where he was waking to eat every 2 hours to eat! I couldn't do it anymore so we moved him to his nursery in his swing and he finally sleeps! Last night was probably his longest stretch at 8 hours and I think for his age the definition of STTN is about 5 hours. Wahoo!

LO slept 11 hours straight a few weeks ago. He's also done a few 10 hour stretches recently, but these are definitely not the norm (unfortunately!). He's 4.5 months.

Lo#1 didn't consistently STTN until he was 15-18 months.
LO#2 did a 6 hour stretch the other night but it was total fluke (my boobs were NOT happy!) He can go 2-3.5 hours usually, which is normal for a 7wk breastfed baby.

For my first, didn't happen until sleep training at 6 months. Before that he never slept more than 4 hours at a time at night and always less than an hour for naps. His naps lengthened after night training.

My second is a better sleeper, she would sleep 9-6 at around 4 or 5 months. After a litte CIO to get her sleeping in her room she now sleeps 9-8. She had monster 3 hour naps as a newborn but they've settled into 1.5-2 hour ones when she hit 4 months. Sleep training was life changing for us for both kids.

@runnerd: how many weeks is your LO? I think if that happened right now (and i know it won't, but i'm hoping for at least consistent 4 hour stretches!) i would definitely do the same, run over and make sure he's breathing!

@Espion: 6 months... omg i don't know how i will manage these nights when i go back to work when he's 3 months!

Lol, STTN is something I'm scared to talk about bc I'm afraid I'll jinx myself! I will say it has started happening about 80% of the time for the past 2 weeks. And we did absolutely nothing different - it just happened out of no where! The first time, I shot up out of bed at 5am shocked that I hadn't had to get up, went and stared at his crib and put my hand on his chest to make sure he was still breathing!!

I'm extremely bewildered as to how this all of a sudden happens. I feel like my baby just has no concept of sleeping at night and naps - I've been trying to establish some sleep cues and night time routine but honestly I feel like to him, any time he sleeps it's just guaranteed to be 2-3 hours TOPS, no matter what time of the day it is!

So the first time your LO had his/her longest stretch of sleep ever, how? why?? when??? Did you cry tears of joy? Did you throw a party the day after? Did rainbow farting unicorns appear before your eyes?
