Ugh hate it! DH calls it fake crying.

I have no great strategies, just pure sympathy. It sucks!

I try to ignore and sometimes I try to distract and other times I just tell him he needs to stop. The last one is shockingly effective, temporarily. Sometimes though, the small break in whining is enough to take a few deep breaths and muster up a bit more patience and empathy!

Whining is my kryptonite.

I find it hard to ignore. It's like nails on a chalk board.

You know what works? Taking away a toy. Every time she whines I take away a toy, and I start with whatever is her favorite at the time. It's amazing. It WORKS. Temporarily.

But still.

Still annoying and I thought it would get better with better communication but now he just knows how to whine for or about more specific things. I think whining is a long term issue. My husband still whines!

Just have to learn to ignore it as I keep telling myself. Something in me sets off when I hear whining and it's mostly from my almost 5.5 year old! He whines and cries for EVERYTHING he wants. I want to pull my hair out when he does this b/c it's for literally everything, even a cup of water. My almost 2.5 year old is better but he definitely has his moments. I just tell them I can't understand them if they whine talk and until they speak louder and more clearly they won't get what they want. ;) I guess that's still a bit a while for you, but it doesn't get any better when they do start to talk. :\ Just breeeeeathe....

Whining is the pits! After words come it's easier because I don't respond to my nearly 2 year old if he's whining, so it's let up a lot. Something my son's daycare teachers showed me that helped us was to talk to him while he whines about whatever is going on. Like, Oh yes I get antsy on long car trips too. After a bit of doing that, I could swear his whining fits were shorter. We also taught him please in sign language & if he used it that gave us an "out" to cut his whining short, like asking please and we'd walk around the restaurant.

@Cherrybee: I'm right there with you on this. I'd like to think that once she has words she'll be able to just tell us what's wrong but I know it just becomes whiny words instead of just whining noises. I also have heard that tantrums are super fun.

But when they are happy they are so so cute at least. :)

Oh Lordy. At 12.5 months, E has started whining whenever she's confined. The car seat, her high chair, restaurant high chairs.... if she's not actively eating (or sleeping), she whinges loudly in this excessively high pitched tone..... I know she's bored and just wants to get out and walk/crawl around but sometimes we're driving, you know?!

We just had a lovely afternoon at the petting zoo but all the way there and all the way back - and in the restaurant while we waited for our lunch - she wailed. My head is throbbing from it!

Please, please tell me you get used to it because I know that this is just the beginning!
