LA Zoo? I love it there! One of their gorillas there loooooves to interact with little people!

Around 10 months my little guy started liking the zoo and aquarium. He is very into animals though. I went with my nephews when they were 1, and they didn't care at all. Depends on the kiddo, I guess! I've been taking my guy to our zoo since he was about 6 weeks old. It is a nice place to just walk around.

@artbee: it won't be bank breaking or anything, but it would be about an hour in the car, $40 for both me and hubs, maybe food (but we could pack our own). I think it might be more for me than him, but I'm just trying to think of something different that is going to get us out of the house on Monday. Its supposed to be 80 degrees in SoCal!!

I went to a small zoo with my 18 month old nephew and my friend and her then 8 month old baby and they all loved it. The 8 month old slept for a bunch but my friend said he loves it when he is awake, especially the penguins since you can get pretty close to them behind the glass. My 18mo nephew LOVED everything-- though he loves animals and does get excited about every dog he sees too. I would definitely do it.

How expensive are we talking? I took LO to the aquarium at that age and she seemed to enjoy it. She pointed at the fish, stared for awhile at some of them. Some of them she could care less about. I think it was more for me than for her..... I took lots of pictures of her first trip to the aquarium :) But I love the aquarium and zoo and LO is free so really I'm just paying for me to get in so it's worth it for me.

I would definitely take a 1 year old to the zoo. We used to take both boys 1 & 4 to the zoo all the time. As @HLK208: said, they change and develop each time you take them will be a new experience! FUN!

Even at almost 2 years old my son has a tolerance for about an hour at the zoo before he's ready for something totally different. He's been that way since we started taking him around 1 year of age so I would say it's worth a shot but maybe don't expect to stay longer than an hour or two. We became zoo members just for this purpose, we can go for 45 minutes or so once a month or once a week and not feel like we just spent all this money for nothing.

We took our LO to the zoo for the first time when she was.. 15 months old or so and she LOVED it. I'm sure she would have loved it at 12 months too. :)

Not too young at all! We took DS to the zoo for his first birthday and he loved it. He was really interested. It's fun to take them every few months, because they change and develop so much in that time that they notice new things that they hadn't before.

I want to take advantage of the nice weather and the day off on Monday and was thinking of taking my 1 year old to the zoo. Is that too young to understand and have a good time? He has a couple of animal books and likes the pictures. He enjoys being outside, but doesn't get excited when we walk past a dog or anything. Will this just end up being an expensive walk in the stroller?
