We did "Warm up on a chilly day" and had a chili bar for lunch. White chili, red chili, vegetarian chili, served with fritos, baked potatoes, cornbread, hot dogs, etc.

"First Snow" theme. Mrs. Train made "snow" with her kids; you could do the samemil experiment with the bigger party goers. Other activities could be creating snow flakes or snow wands. You can serve snow cones.

We did a twinkle twinkle little star theme for our LO's first. Since he's a boy we did primary colored stars and we had lots of star shapes with the food. It would probably be even easier to find star shapes near the holidays. There are all kinds of cute things on Pinterest for this theme, especially for little girls. :)

You could do a Polar Express theme and have guests come in their PJs. Serve cookies, milk, hot chocolate bar. Give out bells as favors? That might be too Christmas-y for January, though? I like the "Baby it's cold outside" theme, too.

Oh, you could do gingerbread cookie decorating too! or mini gingerbread house making which I make with 6 graham crackers glued together with melted white sugar. They're adorable and very sturdy. The "baby it's cold outside" theme is cute! @regberadaisy:

We have a Dec birthday so we've been thinking about it too! And I live in the NE so it'll actually be cold, haha.

But I actually don't think we will be doing a winter theme. DD has a favorite book right now so I'm gonna see if it remains her favorite book and to use that as a theme.

Winter sports theme or the winter wonderland one, with a hot chocolate bar where you can add your own toppings/mixes like crushed candy canes, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, whipped cream, etc. Then you can play games like paper snowball toss into a box. I did it with white socks rolled into balls. It would be so pretty to have sparkly white snowy decorations around. You could also have marshmallow snowmen. I am having all these winter snack ideas go through my head right now...

What about like a "baby, it's cold outside" centering around a hot chocolate bar?

Winter ONEderland is always a cute theme and you can do it a lot of different ways! :) My cousin did milk and cookies and a hot chocolate bar with different toppings.

@Mamaof2: Very cute. My friend did that for her daughter a few years back. It was like 80 degrees that day. haha It was still very well done.

I'm already starting to soft plan my DD's 1st birthday party which will be in January. What can I say, I'm an OCD planner. Looking for ideas for themes appropriate for "winter." I use winter in quotes because we live in southern California so it's not really that could but it is unpredictable. It can be 60 and raining or it can be 75 and sunny.

So far the two themes I've come up with is a sparkly snowflake theme and a twinkle, twinkle, little star theme. Would love other ideas. It doesn't have to be a winter related theme, just something winter appropriate (so not like beach theme or ice cream social.)

TIA!
