I put an ice pack under DD’s lunch in her lunchbag (insulated) and it’s still cold at the end of the day.

@Becky: we did the pbk lunch with some little flat ice packs. I felt comfortable sending turkey sandwiches, cheese and crackers (like diy lunchables), peanut butter sandwiches and fruit. No issues.

It would be helpful to find out from other school parents where the lunches are until lunch time. Ours were in the classroom which is air conditioned obviously and then taken to the lunchroom so it is not like they are baking in the sun. Also some classrooms might have fridges?

I’ll definutely have to check this one out! I don’t want to be relegated to shelf stable lunches so this looks great. Thanks!

@Becky: target has a variety in there back to school section. Some are bento box style and come with thr insulated bag and ice pack.
We do a lot of sandwiches like tuna and turkey. We also alternate with school lunch if she likes whats on the menu.
Although I started the school year being 100% agaisnt lunchables i gave in and do let her have those now and then.

We also have a PackIt but a different style than was linked above. The above one is less expensive and was maybe not available when we bought ours because I thinkI like it better! The style we have definitely keeps her food cold well past lunch, and was consumer tested for temperature control which is why I chose it.

We just use an insulated lunch box with an ice pack. Never had any issues with it.

I know some people aren't fans of the Packit because one type freezes in weird ways, but have been using this one for DS1 for the past year and have been happy with it.

DD is starting K in September and lunch isn’t until 1:15. Any recommendations on a lunchbox situation that will keep things cool but not be too hard for her to bring on the bus, open herself, etc? Also any ideas for lunches that don’t need to be kept super cold are appreciated! Right now my default is turkey sandwiches and I’m not sure that will work unless there’s a really awesome lunch box/bag out there!
