We also have the Exegen. My trick is to do a reading on me first while my LOs watch. The beeps usually catch their attention and then they think it's funny. Then I can do it on them without too much squirming.

I purchased the Braun digital ear thermometer after our Exergen temporal became even more erratic than usual. I never trusted it, and LO rarely cooperated.
I love the Braun. It's fast, lightweight, seems accurate, and LO has quickly adapted to it. The only downside is that while the area around the digital face lights up, you can't actually see the reading in the dark, which is annoying but not a deal breaker.

I have the exergen temporal thermometer, too, & like it. I usually do 2-3 readings on LO & at least 1 on me to feel confident in its readings, but felt that was more about my technique, not the instrument itself.

Eta: I was surprised after LO's last ear infection at 11 mos, she seemed to actually hold especially still to let me do the reading & then we'd "read" the temp together. I don't expect that to last, but it was cute.

We have a braun forehead one and I like it. It sometimes varies a bit but it's so fast that I usually take it like 3x and get similar readings (like within .1-.2). Lo usually ends up wanting to play w it and take my temp too

We also have the Braun ear one and I have found it to be accurate (within 1 degree) when compared to a rectal thermometer. I bought mine at Target.

We have a Braun ear one and it's by far my favorite for accuracy. We have a temporal and no touch and I don't find them as reliable.

@DesertDreams88: I do that, but sometimes it's hard to keep it pressed tightly to a squirmy toddler. A few weeks back she had a terrible virus and the exergen one read 107 at one point. Rushed her to the pediatrician and they ended up getting a reading of 104, though I'd already given her Tylenol and Motrin so possibly it really has gone down in that ten minutes. I just don't trust it now... But maybe mine is just wonky.

I like the exergan head thermometer and find it very accurate throughout multiple readings. I bought it after the 3 standard thermometers were varying by more than a degree :( the head thermometer comes with an insert describing very specifically how to do it and how to troubleshoot...? I press firmly to the skin, click and hold the button, drag it across the forehead to the temple to the right, release the button, then check the temp. Then I wait about 5-10 seconds and repeat on the other side (to the left). It is important to hold the button only when it is touching skin, otherwise it will read the air temp.

I like the Exergan and found it to be pretty accurate. Haven't used it on my toddler yet, but I used it on myself when I had the stomach flu :bummed:

Oh and I have a rectal one but trying to get a rectal temp on an almost 3 year old sounds a little harder than winning American Ninja Warrior.

What thermometer do you use for your toddler? Like specific links, if possible.

We had an ear one that didn't seem to work at all. Then I got an exergen temporal (forehead) one that is highly recommended, but I feel like I never trust the reading. So a nurse showed me how to do the armpit temp and I bought a "quick read" regular thermometer at CVS- and it takes forever, like a minute which is a long time for a toddler to stay still.

She has had a million ear infections so I feel like I'm also taking her temp then not trusting what it says. So, what thermometer do you have and like? Or is this just user error?
