If you have a fall/winter baby - footed sleepers...LO lived in them for months.

Also buttoned sleep gowns...makes middle of the night diaper changes so easy and sometimes LO would spit up a ton in the middle of the night and the buttoned gowns made middle of the night outfit changes so easy

Summer/kiddopotomus/velcro swaddles - I had 2 but bought 3 more. These were easy to use and helped LO sleep long stretches

ELECTRIC BREAST PUMP - everyone told me I didn't need it bc I was going to be a SAHM but I ended up bying one to help my milk to come in and increase my supply and to have pumped milk to supplement. I stopped pumping when breastfeeding got easier but started again when LO was 6 months and started solids...i use pumped milk to make her purées.

I definitely needed more newborn clothes and velcro swaddles (we use the SwaddleMe) right away.

Other things that I needed to purchase after baby that I waited to buy on purpose were more cloth diapers, bottles, and pacis. I wanted to wait and find out which bottles and pacis DD preferred... and which diapers I preferred!

1) Pantiliners definitely!
2)A&A blankets--we started out with 4 and bought 4 more after the baby arrived. They are so versatile!
3)Dr. Brown bottles
4)bibs and burp cloths
5)Woombies! My baby is a houdini and breaks out of his swaddle. Woombies ensure he is snug as a bug at night. We tried the miracle blanket but he kicks his legs out of the pocket.

Nursing tanks & more comfy nursing bras.

More dipes & cloth wipes even though my stash size "works"

A variety of baby wraps & carriers bc you just can't have enough! Lol

Otherwise we're pretty much minimalist when it comes to baby gear.

We got some nb clothes from our niece who is just about a yr older than dd so they were right size/season.

Never used the nb mitts or the a&a blankets (although if I had 1 I might be raving about them too), I didn't pump until DD was 5wks & have only used it a handful of times due to oversupply. Even with baby toes we've gone more old school. Lol

We hardly used any bibs or burp cloths.

You really never know, as most of the things that people are listing I don't use at all.

Here's what I had to still buy after the baby came:

1) nursing cover
2) nursing pads (had washable ones but I am a major leaker so I go through them in like 12 hours but only do wash every 48)
3) more sleep sacks with the swaddle (Halo are my fave)
4) muslin blankets (like the A&A ones) so useful for summer
5) breastmilk bags
6) the carseat strap covers

In contrast to what is said up here: I bought 3 packs of pads for my bleeding and only used one pack. I didn't use sleepers until now, as in the newborn stage I was changing diapers overnight and sleepers were too much to deal with, so I just used a really warm sleep sack with swaddle and he was toastie. I rarely use bibs, as I don't like the way they 'take over' an outfit. And I don't use 'burp cloths', just the baby washcloths. I'd rather just change the top. I breastfeed so we just need the two bottles that came with the breast pump, and I feel bad for the other bottles that just sit in the cupboard.

Those shirts with the foldover hands. He wore them under everything because his nail grew so fast and he looked like got in a cat fight without them.

Newborn clothes. He was 7lbs and wore NB size until he was 6weeks. I didn't buy a single NB thing - tip for new moms - keep the tags on and keep the receipt, Carters will take the clothes back at any time. So if you're not finding out the sex you can buy girl and boy clothes and then return whatever you don't need when you're feeling better instead of needing to go shopping when you're super sore!

Burp clothes - I made a dozen and needed a dozen more

Pads...see Mediagirl's comment ;)

in re: changing pad covers - we took a bunch of receiving blankets from the hospital and folded those up on top of the changing pad.

Burp cloths. We have plenty but we could always use more.

Boppy changing pad liners. FOR REAL. These are awesome - and they're always in the wash.

Sleepers. The only time I think she's cold is at night. She needs to sleep in sleepers!!

Lanolin. You can't have enough. Your nipples will thank you.

Unrelated to baby - panty liners. Once the major bleeding goes away, you still spot for quite some time. Husband just had to go buy more today.

We just bought a bunch of Boppy changing pad liners. We have 2 changing pad covers but I agree, it's a good idea to have something on top of the covers.

I also, for whatever reason, thought I could get by with just a few bibs. I just ordered another 12 pack!

@lydg: we have the waterproof pad (foam covered in plastic) with a cotton cover on it. On top of that we used a receiving blanket folded in half and then just a small waterproof pad under her bum. It was great because we didn't have to wash the cover that often. We had lots of diaper mishaps those first few months.

Newborn clothes! I was so sure LO was going to be a big baby (since I was a 9 pounder) and she wasn't. Poor thing was swallowed in 0-3 month gowns until my SIL went and bought her some preemie and newborn outfits!

Aden + Anais blankets-I had 4 when she was born and I just went and bought 4 more. We live in Atlanta and they are so light that I don't worry she's going to sweat to death.

Waterproof pads-I had two when LO was born, I ended up buying 4 more. I use them to change her diaper when I dont want to walk to her changing table, have one on top of the changing pad (for easier cleanup), have one in her bouncy and swing (so if she throws up or has a blowout I don't have to wash the whole cover!!) and have one in her crib.

Wubbanubs. We had just the regular soothies when she was born and poor thing could not keep it in her mouth. So we ordered one, which my MIL's dog ended up eating. So now we have 3 and they're awesome!

@lydg: We started with a 5 piece Dr Brown Feeding Set. It wasn't enough w/o having to wash them every single day. So I ran out and got another set just to have a few extra so we didn't feel like if we didn't run them through the sterilizer tonight the next day she won't have bottles.
But. I had intend to only start with a starter set not knowing if she'll take to the Dr Brown bottles.

How many bottles do you all think are needed? I think I have around 8 right now. What would be enough?

@thehistoryofus I wondered about waterproof pad for changing pad. We have a waterproof changing pad, with a cover over it. Do you think I still need a waterproof pad? This was confusing to me when I was registering and saw the two.

for my shower my mom is doing a little "game" where everyone that brings a package of diapers gets entered into a raffle to win a gift... that way we should have plenty of diapers to get us going!! ;)

I second you on the pump! I'm a SAHM as well and thought I only needed a manual. After 6 weeks, I broke down and bought the Medela Swing. If I had the money I would have splurged for a double. It's amazing how much more I can pump now!

1. We didn't use these even with an august baby in FL but we did need some NB sized stuff that we didn't really have. Even at 9 lbs she wasn't filled out enough for the 0-3 month stuff.

2. We had to run out to get more waterproof pads for on the changing table. We got by without an extra changing pad cover but wish we had two.

3. We never used the mittens

4. We had a 4 pack of blankets and I went and bought 4 more!

5. No shields needed but I did need to run out and buy Lanolin and BM bags (didn't think I would be pumping so soon)

Now that LO is here, I've been keeping a mental list of things I should have bought/bought more of. Here's my list to date:

1 Carter's NB short sleeve side-snap tees: LO's a summer baby and I use these all the time! To think I considered returning them thinking they were too tiny to ever fit her. She's born 7 lbs 3 oz and 19.7 in - they fit her perfectly and are oh-so convenient for diaper changes!

2 More diapers! More wipes! More disposable changing pad liners!

3 More cheap Gerber NB mittens. They're the only ones that fit my LO that doesn't fall off. The organic cotton ones I bought don't stay on for longer than 5 mins!

4 More A&A blankets. People were right - I use these everyday, multiple times a day and they're just wonderful.

5 Medela nipple shields. Apparently my nipples aren't torpedoes. I need them (can't BF without them).

6 An electric breast pump! What was I thinking?! Because I'll be staying home with the baby I thought I'd only need a manual pump for when I'm engorged. Ha! Now I'm counting down the days before my order arrives.

What were the things that were on your list?
