@LindsayInNY: NJ bound! Not sure if our plans include NYC yet :) My sister is taking a 2 week vacay from the peace corps so my mom is flying us in- so I'll be mostly focused on spending time with her! She hasn't met Effie yet!!! You know I will let you know if I head to NYC :)

I don't know what week you are going but Sesame Street Live is going to be playing at the Theater at Madison Square Garden and there are Groupon discounts. Shows are at 10:30, 2 and 5:30 so you may be able to make the early show before work.
NYC hotel rooms are notoriously small, you may want to call around.

CMOM is great for toddlers. Cafe Lalo (in the movie You've Got Mail) is across the street. Since CMOM doesn't allow food, go there for lunch, but just leave your stroller checked in at museum since the cafe doesn't allow strollers.

Toys R Us - the Ferris wheel inside is so huge

Check out the Big Piano at FAO Schwartz

MoMA -Not many tourists know there's a kids' room called The Material Lab.... very interactive for toddlers. There's digital painting, a light box, books, toys and usually a craft project going on. You'll have to ask how to get there since it's on a different side as the main entrance. Cafe on the 2nd floor is great and try have Trip Trapps for high chairs. Monet's Water Lillies and Van Gogh's Starry Night should still be there.

Central Park - if it's not too cold.... The CP Zoo is nice and compact and the Tisch Children's Zoo is really fun for toddlers. You could also take her to see Belvedere Castle. There's also just exploring and finding the big playgrounds or going on a horse-and-carriage ride.

See the Gazillion Bubble Show.

Eat at Shake Shack! Just try to go at an off-peak time to avoid the wait. The theater district location is very busy (well, they all are), but it is indoors and close to Times Square.

Rockefeller Center & 5th Ave... lots of shopping and restaurants. See where they tape the Today Show (or go early and check it out during taping yourself). Top of the Rock will give you a fun elevator ride and a gorgeous city view/photo op.

If I think of more things, I'll post... It's been a while since we've been.

@Mrs. Bee: thanks for that link, we'll definitely check it out. Yeah, now I'm starting to dwell on our lack of protective clothing for our kiddo! We southerners with door to door transport don't even do gloves. :)

@locavore_mama: that kids museum looks pretty cool. We have a membership to our local kids museum that gets us reciprocal membership to CMOM. We're definitely going to check that out! Thank you!

We've been going to a ton of museums because it's been so cold. We just went to the Natural History Museum, and the kids were in love. The butterfly exhibit is amazing and it's interesting for parents too!

I haven't been to the Children's Museum in Manhattan, but it's supposed to be great.

There will be a farmer's market in Union Square on Saturdays and there's lots in that area. Shopping, eating, Barnes and Noble, playground. Madison Square Park is not too far away where you can grab a Shake Shack.

I think it will be pretty cold then since it's been such a cold/snowy winter already, so indoor things are probably your best bet!

This is a great site to check out:

Toys R us Times Square! imho way more awesome than FAO Schwarz
http://www.toysrusinc.com/about-us/times-square/

Dylan's Candy Bar!
http://www.dylanscandybar.com/

And I can't believe I'm going to suggest this. But we took my ILs to Carmine's in the Theater District years back. And the food was actually pretty decent. Bonus points walking distance for you! :)

ETA: maybe check before you go?

@mediagirl: hope for a big bathroom to stick the PNP in!! Or, one of those rooms with a sink area outside the bathroom. Honestly, P slept so well at my Mom's at Thanksgiving with the PNP next to our bed. We would come in and out of the room and she didn't flinch. It was pretty incredible.

We're going to NYC in February for a long weekend. I'll be working in the evenings but we'll have all day to go out and see sights and do things. What should we do while we're there?
