I had issues and had to stop breastfeeding in my LOs first week of life. I beat myself up over it and felt really guilty because "I'm a failure as a woman" but I'm getting over it. The most important thing to remember is that doing what is best for you is going to be best for your LO too. Whatever decision you make, it'll be the best one for you and your baby.

Here's a blog post I found that really helped me.

Seriously, don't beat yourself up. It's good that your LO got as much as she has so far!

Thanks ladies for your support. I am going to call my dr tomorrow and talk to her about it, and I might even drop by the LC's office at the hospital if DS is feeling better.
@Mrs. Bee: If I just pump once a day will my milk supply get even lower?

I only lasted a week! My milk came in late which just spiraled into lots of other problems. I was miserable, and cried every time I fed lo. Finally I decided it just wasn't right for us. If I was miserable I must be making her miserable and that wasn't ok with me. I wanted feeding time to be a happy time for my lo. So I cried and cried and cried, and cried some more, and switched to formula. Lo has consistently been in the 90-95th percentile for weight. Shes healthy and happy, and that's all that matters.

If you want to continue, find a new lactation consultant or see la leche league for support. I found them very useful. When things hurt, I pumped and that helped.

Ultimately, you have to do what works best for you and baby. Happy momma makes happy baby.

People stop breastfeeding for many many reasons and it's absolutely nothing to feel badly about. Do what is right for you. But pumping can be an option...Also, I had to take supplements on two different occasions, and I had mastitis, cracked nipples, etc. in the first 6 weeks but eventually everything got better. Speak to someone first and then make your decision and whatever it is, it's all good! *HUGS*

you could try just pumping and taking a break from nursing. maybe that'll give you time to heal. i always tell moms that it's not all or nothing. you could even pump once a day (and probably get two bottles' worth in that session), and just offer two bottles of breastmilk + formula the rest of the time. they will still get a lot of the benefits.

don't beat yourself up!

Oh honey, you've got a lot going on. No one is going to fault you for whatever you decide, but you might want to talk to your lactation consultant before making any decisions. Meanwhile, here's a hug!

I really wanted to be able to make it to at least 3 months, if not longer, but I just don't know if I can do it. My nipples hurt and for some reason DD has taken a strike on the nipple shield. My supply is super low, I have to supplement as it is, and I have an infection. I don't want to stop because I feel like I have failed, but I just don't know what to do...
