We did CIO with checks around 3.5 for falling asleep. It only took 7 min the first night and since then he has put himself to sleep. Sometimes its quick and easy and sometimes it take a while, but there are rarely tears! Im currently trying to deal with MOTN wake ups with my LO at 7 months old. Right now I nurse him to sleep and he has suddenly developed object permanence so it is really screwing with his sleep. We are moving the nursing part of his routine from the end to the beginning and Im hoping it helps!

The precious little sleep blog has a great post on how to deal with multiple sleeping issues...I think someone had a similar issue to yours. In her post she told the woman to deal with putting down awake first. Once baby was able to put himself to sleep alone at his normal bedtime (9-10pm) then you start moving the bedtime earlier by 15-30 a night. Once you accomplish that, you tackle naps. Ah I found it! https://www.preciouslittlesleep.com/7-days-to-chunky-naps-and-11-hour-nights/ Lots of good info!

Personally I'd wait until 6 months and reevaluate. A ton of these things on your list happened naturally around that time. We moved her to her own room at night at 4 months with no major issues. But really if ou choose to do any sort of sleep training, if just pick one thing to tackle first.

@charleysmom: I'm not sure if either of us are ready to fully commit to it all yet, but hopefully in the next month or so. I've heard of Sleep Sense- is it a book? I'll have to look that up. She's really been fighting us when rock her to sleep. Thanks!

@petitenoisette: Yeah that sounds like a good idea.
She usually sleeps until about 7am, with one wake up between 4-5am to eat. I really need to look into different sleep training methods, but I'm not opposed to some crying.

Sounds like my daughter! I tried timed checks at 4 months and I just couldn't commit to it- I think she just was not ready. We continued rocking/holding her until she was 6 months and decided to try again. My husband was very anxious about it so I suggested he research different techniques and pick what he was the most comfortable with. That turned out to be Sleep Sense. He was on vacation so we tackled everything at once: naps, night, and dream feed. The first nap was torture but, honestly, got much better very quickly. I think she was just ready-we noticed that it was getting more and more difficult to rock her and once she did fall asleep in our arms, she would often wake herself up because she wanted the freedom to move around. She's now 20 months and is a great sleeper- aside from an occasional nap strike, lol. Good luck to you! It gets better!

Personally I would tackle sleeping in crib for naps (and keep her with you at night for now) and an earlier bedtime first. I am really terrible at remembering what my daughter did at certain months but I am pretty sure we had a much earlier bedtime around 3 months.

My daughter just turned one and I still nurse her right before bed but not completely to sleep. She can then mostly fall asleep on her own at night, but for naps I still have to rock her a lot! Anyway so I'm not much help there.

How does she sleep overnight? When does she get up for the day? How do you feel about sleep training (CIO, etc.)?

I need some help with my 4 month old daughter's sleep. Our current sleep situation has been working okay, but I know it could be better.

What currently happens:
- bedtime between 9-10pm
- only naps in my arms or her car seat (in the car or stroller)
- sleeps in a bassinet in our room at night
- rocked to sleep for naps
- nurses to sleep at night

What I would like to happen:
- move bedtime earlier to approximately 7pm
- take naps in crib
- sleep in crib at night in her own room
- put down awake for naps
- put down awake for bedtime

I don't really know where to start...
• Would you make the changes one by one or all at once?
• How old was your LO when they were able to do all of these things?
• Do you have one or two books on sleep you would recommend?
