Update: I was totally freaking out over nothing. Once he had a successful pee in the potty he decided the high fives and happy dance we did were way more fun than keeping on the floor. He's still had a couple of pees on the floor since then, but overall I'd say he's doing great considering it's only been about 24 hours since we started!

@wonderstruck: ohhhhhh i was under the impression he kept doing it. I wouldn't think much of it just being one time!

E peed on the floor and slipped in it once and that sort of ruined it for her, lol. We had to go back to naked time a few times in the first few weeks. Even now, E isn't a big fan of underwear at home and skips it 95% of the time. But it's moot this far into training, too.

@wonderstruck: how many times has he done it? I read the book too (we're starting over Labor Day weekend) and I think in this case, if it's been several times, I'd probably try underwear or maybe move to commando so that he feels it and it's not funny. I think block one is more for you to catch his signals and for him to realize he's peeing, because with pants on, it's harder to catch them mid-pee. But if you know his signals, I'd think about moving to block two.

@blackbird: I said, " Uh oh, pee goes in the potty!" as I moved him to the potty. Then after I did have him help me clean it up.

But yeah I'm thinking we probably need it to be uncomfortable. That was the first time so I'll see if it was a fluke or not (I'm probably overreacting for it happening once, but I don't want to mess this up!) and then we'll go to underwear if he repeats this even after clean up.

Is there any consequence for peeing on the floor when he does it so blatantly (ie not an accident)? If he's playing with something, etc, I'd take the toy away. Because he knows he's doing it, right? I mean, he thinks it's fun for some reason. Is it because he's watching you clean it up? Make him clean it up! Otherwise, underwear might be good because it'll be gross and uncomfortable.

I would just be careful with your reaction. No laughing! Or really reaction at all except. Uh oh, let's try to get all of the pee in the potty!

I've heard training with undies on is better for boys because they actually feel the wetness. That's what we did...

He'd probably just find a way to take the pants off and do the same thing! Maybe put him back in diapers for a bit, or teach him to pee standing up and aim in the potty?

We are on day one of potty training. I was hopeful it would be easy since DS recently started telling me when he was about to pee or poop. I read the Oh Crap Potty Training book, and today we started off with naked time. Well, now that he's naked he has stopped telling me when he needs to go. He holds it for awhile and then let's out a quick big steam of pee that typically shoots up in the air. Of course, he thinks this is hilarious and has zero interest in doing it on the potty. What would you do? Particularly if you tried to follow that book. Just keep him naked, keep rushing him to the potty even though he's done then and just sits on it doing nothing? Or go against the book's advice and put him in undies so that it's not funny to him when he has an accident?
