@shinymama: Good point! Thanks.. I think my mind is 95% made up to take the thinsulate back and get a bigger size of the same jacket

I would go with the Thinsulate as long as you can layer if necessary underneath. I find the 4-in-1 concept to better in theory than in actual practice.

@looch: I'm not even 100% sure why its 4-in-1 I will double check when I go to target this week

@rsp213: Thanks! Yeah I really wonder if I will use it in separate pieces or not.. I think I may end up buying both which will be a waste of money!! :S

I went through this exact decision a few weeks ago and decided to go with the Thinsulate. We had a 4-1 last year and we didn't really use it in separate pieces so I decided this year to choose something else. I also like how the Thinsulate is less bulky.

Hope that helps!

I don't have personal experience with thinsulate, or that brand, but I get my son a 3 in 1 coat every year in the end of season clearance at Lands End. They have an awesome return policy too, so if you try it and hate it, you can return it even if you've worn and washed it. I paid something like $35 for my son's coat last year, so keep an eye out.

PS: is it 4 in 1 because the hood comes off the outer layer?

@T-Mom: yeah thats what I think too.. I think thats why the thinsulate jacket is slightly more expensive... Decisions, decisions

I actually think the thinsulate jacket looks warmer, but definitely the 4-1 is more versatile.

@sorrycharlie: Thanks... I wonder if the 4 in 1 is as warm as the insulated one?

I agree with kiddosc! I have a 4-in-1 jacket from LL Bean and I love it. Definitely versatile.

I vote for the 4-in-1 because you're likely to get more use out of it. Using the inner shell in the fall, the whole jacket in the winter, and the outer shell as a raincoat in spring if it still fits.

I picked up this thinsulate insulated jacket from target. but now I am wondering I should return it. I have had good experience with thinsulate brand items in the past. However I'm wondering if this is good for toddlers. Should I just get a regular jacket instead that doesn't have the thinsulate insulation?
There have another jacket is a 4 in one with a removable outer jacket which is slightly cheaper ( second link)
Which one would you get?
