I always say that the third trimester prepares you for sleep deprivation when the baby comes...!! Oh my goodness. When I was pregnant with Wagon Jr. I wasn't working (just walking dogs starting noon every day) so I would just lie in bed until 3, 4, even 5am staring at the snoring Wagon Sr. Finally I'd drift off and wake up at 8am when he got ready for work, then fall back asleep until 11. It was awful. Obviously the second time I couldn't sleep in like that so I was a total zombie.

Lots of people used a snoogle or other pregnancy pillow. We sleep with lots of pillows so I would just surround myself with those. Three under my head (I was basically sitting up, but on my side), one behind my back, one between my legs, and one in front of my chest and I'd hug it. I'd have to get up to pee several times a night, and then I'd have to re-arrange all the pillows again. Not fun.

My third trimester sleep has been horrible! It's so uncomfortable to roll over or shift positions, but if I don't shift positions I'm really uncomfortable too!! Then there's the constant thirst and frequent pee breaks... add to that this endless sickness and crazy cough I've had for the last month and a half... it sucks. I miss good quality sleep.

@Mrs. Stroller: I honestly think this might be how I feel, at least after I get the boys on some sort of similar feeding schedule.

@ladyfingers:Pretty much everything you said is exactly how I feel! You're so close, though! Soon, D will be in your arms!

Can you shut your office door and just put your head down on your desk for 20mins? I took a nap every day because I just couldn't sleep at night and by 2pm I was a mess. My best friend used to lock her door and literally lay down on the floor every afternoon. She told her assistant what she was doing so she could keep people from knocking.

ETA - my 3rd tri sleep was so bad that it was actually better after M was born. Waking up every 2-3 hours to nurse (in bed with a neck pillow after I figured out how to nurse) and then going straight back to sleep around the clock allowed me more sleep than when I was pregnant.

My sleep took a tank somewhere around the beginning of the 3rd trimester. Too much flipping from side to side in the middle of the night and having to get up to pee, and I stopped getting quality deep sleep. I think I noticed it around 31-32 weeks when I started nodding off at my desk.

Now I'm having awesome insomnia. I can't concentrate, partly because my mind is spinning, and partly because it's just so uncomfortable no matter how I sleep.

I hate when I complain about my lack of sleep and people's responses are, "Enjoy it while you can!" Like I'm somehow purposely not sleeping. And like I don't know I'll be getting no sleep once the baby's here. It's such an idiotic need to contribute something to a conversation without listening to a word I'm actually communicating.

That is a bummer! I'm still sleeping reasonably well in the third tri, except for pee breaks. I have to have 5 pillows all in a certain configuration, though. If I can't fall asleep, I usually take a Unisom--maybe that would help you?

@Mrs. Blue: I can't even imagine how much more difficult it is with two in there. I definitely feel for you :(

I'd been doing pretty well with sleep until this past week. Now, no matter what I do or how I use my Snoogle (and the other million pillows with which I surround myself) I can't get comfortable. As of last night/this morning, I seem to have sciatica that radiates all the way into my ankle.

Ugh....being a good sleeper was always my thing!

I haven't slept good this whole pregnancy. Now I can't find a good way to sleep that doesn't give me horrible lower back pain. I feel bad, my pillows are taking over the whole bed!

I've had a horrible time sleeping since about 15 weeks! I have horrible hip pain that has and still keeps me up at night. Fortunately I don't have the pee problem (I'm thinking bc of my long torso maybe?) but still. My sleep is very broken, and I can't sleep much past 7am on the weekends!!! For example, it's 6am here and I am off today, yet I'm wide awake. It sucks. I totally feel you :(

Aw you poor thing! I couldn't sleep throughout my pregnancy for one reason or another and the way I coped was to really try and let my mind rest, rather than laying there stressing, by thinking I might not be sleeping but at least I'm resting and that's something. It is so hard though. Hope you get a more restful weekend.

@Mrs. Blue: I remember that post baby sleep was nice. It sucked because I was still on m back and I was getting up but I could get comfortable again.

Can you maybe shift your work schedule to start a bit later?

@photojane: You're so close now! You'll have to let me know if post-baby sleep really turns out to be better or worse than the sleep you're getting now. Or you could be kind and just lie to me to give me hope! :)

@chopsuey119: Currently trying couch sleeping. No recliner. I guess it's good preparation for when the littles get here, right?!? :)

@bebefly: I wish! I mean, if I were out on bed rest, I could start it early, but without a medical reason, I really can't. My replacement doesn't start until two weeks before the babies will arrive, and I'm supposed to work those two weeks to train him.

Oh I feel ya. I think that's the most frustrating part of pregnancy for me. I haven't been able to sleep peacefully and wake up rested since like 25 or 26 weeks. I'm actually looking forward to post-baby sleep!!

I know I should be "enjoying my sleep now" as I so endlessly hear, but I seriously have been sleeping terribly/not sleeping at all. For most of pregnancy, I had to get up to go to the bathroom several times a night. The last couple of weeks (30 weeks now and measuring full term) I've added that my giant stomach isn't comfortable even with my pillows and if I wake up, I can't go to sleep again forever (like now at 3 a.m.). I am dreading another 6 weeks of this! Also, it seems like my best sleep starts somewhere around 4-5 a.m., which is so frustrating since I have to get up for work by 6:30. I'm mostly just whining and want someone to commiserate with.

When did your sleep get really bad? Any coping mechanisms to share?
