I was showing no signs of labor starting on my due date, I was so stressed about it! The nurses even said that they'd see me in a week for my induction. Mine jokes about oiling my privates for stretching during birth but I doubt she'd actually do it.</p> <p>As for the hormonal release theory, that makes sense that he would have to trigger his own birth. I have a bestie who's an L&amp;D nurse, and I unabashedly had her strip my membranes, twice! Oh, yes. And it totally didn't work. But how dedicated of a friend is she to stick her hands up my cervix?! I know it's all in a day's work, but still. I baked her some cookies ;) I remember reading somewhere that new research is saying none of these techniques are effective, that the baby releases some hormones that tell your body to start labor. What did the trick for me was castor oil. Seriously. It wasn't bad either — the worst part was chugging the 1/2 castor oil and 1/2 orange juice mix. A few hours later, contractions started and I was on my way to labor. I've been in "silent" labor since 9/11 and have contractions all the time with varying pain levels that just don't seem to be doing anything. I'm starting to get really frustrated because with the "silent" labor I was starting to dilate and efface early so the Dr had me leave work a week earlier than I had planned. </p> <p>Now, I'm right at the finish line and I'm still 1cm and 50-70% effaced. I feel so discouraged being that the Dr thought for sure Bug would be born early. The only good news is that he has dropped so we hope that his head will put more pressure on my cervix to ripen.</p> <p>Does anyone have suggestions to help make me not so anxious and/or get this child out? Nothing seems to be working. </p>
