i think that if you would like to increase your supply you will have to nurse and pump right after (i know... SUCH a pain :( ). but if you are just planning on maintaining you can probably get away with nursing instead of pumping? i'm not completely sure. :)

either way though, good job mama!!! :)

i would think a nursing session can replace a pump session. baby is better at stimulating milk production than a pump, i think.

if you feel that he isn't getting a full feeding from nursing, i would probably pump afterwards. when LO was young and we weren't efficient at our breastfeeding relationship, he would nurse, then get a supplemental bottle, and i would pump. this was all to get my supply up, though, so it's a somewhat different situation than yours.

When I was EPing, I made sure to pump 8 times a day to keep my supply up. Since DS is only 7 weeks old, I am hoping that I can still increase my supply a little.

Over the past few days, he started nursing again. He doesn't transfer enough for a full meal (or maybe I just don't produce enough) so we supplement with either pumped milk or formula.

My question is, if I am nursing him 3-4 times a day, do these feedings replace the pump sessions? I have been skipping a pump session when I nurse. Will this hurt my supply? Should I feed and then pump? He transfers around 2 oz each time and that is about what I usually pump anyway.

I really don't want to have to double up and pump every time I nurse. On the other hand, I don't want my supply to take a hit either.
