We switched to 1 nap at 8-9 months. LO was just taking really terrible naps (maybe 30 minutes in the morning, and 45 minutes in the afternoon), so we/daycare started keeping her up in the morning and just taking one long afternoon nap. It was great! Sometimes on the weekend she would take a short morning one, but by a year she was consistently taking only one.

No judgement on snuggling to sleep, I'd be lost without nursing to sleep!!

Miss A dropped to one nap at around nine months, she wasn't taking her second nap till after 4pm and wasn't going to bed for the night till almost ten o'clock. These days she goes down by around 12pm, sleeps approx. two hours then goes to bed by 8pm.

Funny you posted this today! We just took a trial run today and it seems to be working ( cross your fingers! ) My lo was also pushing out her first nap and fighting orcompletely missing her second nap or would go down too late and not want to go to bed. She was losing too much sleep because she would go to bef late but still wake up super early. This momma was getting tired of it and also tired of staying up late with her! So today I pushed her nap out to 12 ( it was usually 9/10) and although she was pretty crabby before bed I think she did good. Unfortunately she always wakes up early regardless of when she goes down...lol

Forgot to add, she's 13 months :)

We transitioned At 12 months because of daycare's schedule. LO was a crappy napper the first year but the transition went well. Now she normally naps 12-1:30/2 or so and it dors make it a lot easier to be out and about and have adventures! Good luck with your transition!

@Bao: <<It really opens up the day for us>>
this is what i'm hoping happens! i feel so tied down at home when our only real time to get out is between naps, and that's only 3 hours to eat lunch, get out, do whatever and get home in time for him to sleep again!

@littlecasita1122: ooh, that's a little sucky! hopefully her nap will lengthen eventually??

@Lindsay05: @BananaPancakes: @sarbear: @banana: thanks for sharing your experiences, ladies! i'm feeling more confident that maybe next week I can try a transition if his night time sleep doesn't improve again by then!

LO switched at around 11 months. Her morning nap just kept getting later and later. It was a fast transition and no real problems. I do miss the two naps though!

My LO transitioned right before he turned 14 months. He had been fighting his afternoon nap on and off for a couple months but then one week he refused to nap or play quietly in his crib at all in the afternoons. Then the week after he started refusing his morning nap which he never did. That's when I knew it was time to drop to one nap. Unfortunately he still hasn't started sleeping in later, he only goes to bed a half hour earlier, and doesn't take a longer nap (he went from two 90 minute naps to one 90 minute nap). He's been taking one nap for almost a month now. Let's just say I miss the two naps!

We transitioned around 14-15 months because he was fighting his afternoon nap. He'd always go down for his morning nap fine, but then he'd stay up for the rest of the day and be a cranky pants. So I moved his nap back to 12:30-1 and just forced him to stay up. He's gotten used to it now at 17 months, but he'd totally fall sleep around 10:30 if I let him still. I would have kept his 2 naps for as long as he wants them, but we cut down because he obviously needed to.

He transitioned at about 13 months. We noticed he was becoming increasingly difficult to put to bed at night. Taking hours to go to sleep. We figured it was due to too much sleep/too late of a second nap. He now STTN majority of the week, which is up from never STTN!

LO switched at 10 months on her own. She just began taking shorter and shorter naps and then refusing, that was more frustrating than her only going to one nap at a young age. She sleeps 13-14 hours at night and takes one 1-2.5 hour nap. It really opens up the day for us.

My daughter transitioned at 12 months and it was basically because she kept fighting her first nap. So we kept pushing it back and now she sleeps at from 1-3. She wakes up at 7am, naps from 1-3 and then is down for the night at 7:30.

like, between 12 and 14 months (or earlier) how did you do it? and, how did you know it was time? or, did you do it because you were just sick of 2 naps?

I'm debating switching LO soon. he goes down fine with 2 naps, but on busy days he does just as fine with 1. and he's started giving me trouble at bedtime. I still snuggle him to sleep (don't judge me! I can feel it from here! ;P) and last night for example it took over an hour! usually he's out within 20 min.
