@Ms.Badger: I tried for 10 weeks but it didn't work for us, so I switched her to formula. She was on Allimentum for other issues (MSPI and extreme reflux) It's possible she was also reacting to peanut butter, as I ate that a lot when I was nursing, since it was quick and filling.

This won't help that much, I think. http://www.choosingwisely.org/doctor-patient-lists/allergy-tests/

This is some supporting evidence for it being a true allergy: http://www.m.webmd.com/allergies/news/20010403/peanut-allergy-may-be-triggered-by-breastfeeding

@Mrs. Jacks: Thank you for taking your time with me. I'll call my ped back today and schedule a time to talk to him about this. Please send me any information you have on this. I am a scientist so primary literature doesn't scare me. I've looked but there isn't a ton of literature on allergies this young.
So sorry about your daughter. I'm sure the reactions are terrifying for both of you.

@Ms.Badger: it is somewhat unusual for broken down antigens to have the same effect as an actual exposure, so maybe its just a bad coincidence. The best thing I can say (as a mom not a doctor) is to start with your primary pediatrician and tell them what happened so you can get an epi pen and rely on them to help you choose wisely about if and when to get allergy testing. I can link you to choosing wisely if you like.

Our daughter had two exposures this past summer :(

@LuLu Mom: Is/was your LO breast-fed? If she was, did she ever react to your milk or did you always avoid nuts? Did anything make you suspect she would have a positive scratch test?

Wow, good luck with this! My DD has an allergy but I FF after 4 months so I never experienced this. We found out through peanut exposure and a blood test and scratch test at 18 months.

@Mrs. Jacks: your story seems similar to what L has displayed so far. Have you had any incidents since testing?

I gave him benedryl on my ped's advice and the hives are abating. I feel like I'm out of the woods for this episode but I've heard dangerous reactions can happen anytime. One exposure escalated from maybe it's upsetting his tummy to obvious allergic reaction with hives. I'm just scared what the next exposure could cause.

We found out from a scratch test and followed up with a blood test to see how bad the allergy is. In November we will be going in for a peanut butter trial, to see how she reactions. Right now I keep her away from all nuts, which is never easy at gatherings!

@Mrs. Jacks: that is terrifying!

I have a 7 year old cousin with a similar story. I cried when my aunt showed me the photos from his testing! He carries an epi pen with him now.

We had this with cashews. We were MSPI and I ate a lot of nuts. I would even open a bag of cashews and she'd get hives. We got allergy testing at 8 months that confirmed my worst fears. The scratch test was so severe that she almost needed epi just from that.

I'm working on a blog post about it.

I think my LO has a peanut allergy. He would have colicy episodes when he was 4 - 10 weeks old where he seemed to be in pain. One day I realized that a bad day followed my eating peanut butter (he's EBF) so I cut out all nuts and that seemed to stop in "in pain" scream. This morning we gave him a bottle of frozen pumped milked from before I stopped eating nuts and now he has hives (he's 4 months). I'm tossing all my old milk but am scared of what the future holds. If he's reacting so young does that mean his allergy is really severe. I'm a little scared now.
Did anyone else experience anything similar? Did it get worse? Did it get better?
