Our home is part carpet & part hardwood. LOs room is carpet & she plays in there a lot but we also have wood floor colored foam puzzle mats & a big rug in the living room. One thing I do with all of my rugs is buy carpet padding (not the non skid rug stuff but actual thick carpet padding foam) & duct tape it to the bottom of my big area rugs to make it really soft & padded. I vacuum a lot too, probably twice/week most weeks.

We just bought a new house and I'll have the carpets cleaned before we move in (current owners have a dog and I'm allergic). Once the LO is mobile, I don't think I'll worry about keeping her confined. Since all the "dirt" will be ours, I figure it will just help her build her immune system!

She just plays on the carpet and our cleaner vacuums once a week. Before we moved in, we had the carpets cleaned. Hope that is good enough!

LOL I was just wondering this same thing about a playroom. :) We have carpet in all of our rooms except the kitchen, dining and downstairs hallway. I feel better about having carpet than hardwoods when she starts walking...

At our current house we have carpet throughout except in the kitchen, master and spare/exercise room. I would have no problem letting our baby play on the carpet because we vacuum A LOT. At least 2 times a week on a bad week.

At the new house because we will have a basement the only spaces with carpet will be the family room and hallway into bedrooms. I won't have issues letting her play on the carpet then either.

Baking soda is a great way to clean & deodorize your carpet. Vacuum, sprinkle baking soda, let sit, re-vacuum.
We also have a heated vacuum cleaner so we use that probably quarterly.

@artbee: Yeah, I don't worry about it at all but it just crossed my mind this morning that maybe I *should* worry. LOL.

Her room is carpet and she plays a lot in there. She would never stay on a blanket, so I just let her roam around. Our dog sheds so it's probably not the best idea, but I don't really worry about it.

...Does your LO play on the carpet? Or do you have something like a blanket or foam squares set up on top of it?

Right now, LO roams around the carpet (our entire house is carpeted), which she likes because she can dig her fingers and toes into it for good grip but I have to say, I don't vacuum nearly as much as I should and I wonder if having her on the carpet is good for her.

What do you do?
