I'd replace "thought-provoking" with "rage-inducing"

Some of the things people feel like posting on social media is really, really disheartening.

Sigh. I would guess it's because slavery is something we as a country were responsible for, so it's hard for people to wrap their mind around that morally, while the other two were things done to "us" by outsiders. That's all I got. You'd thing the opposite would be true, but cognitive dissonance makes people weird (we're the best! I love us! Even though we did something horrific!)

People don't like to think about/talk about the really terrible things we've done as a country.

I don't think you can make a comparison like that between those 3 particular events, so I don't think the graphic makes much sense. I wouldn't agree that we don't remember with respect the victims of slavery--I think most people would agree that it was an atrocious mark on our country's history. I don't think you can accurately break down large issues into a jpeg file, and I think it would be a mistake to attribute that opinion (i.e. black people are lazy and should go back to Africa) to the masses.

Sorry to be starting controversial posts, but someone just posted this in my facebook newsfeed as a response to a comment to a comment that black people are lazy and should go back to africa.

The picture really made me wonder why it is that we vow to remember with respect the victims of 9/11 and holocaust but not slavery and the civil rights movement. someone responded and said because slavery was longer ago, although the civil rights movement continued until after the holocaust and WW2
