I was in a different Court today and they happened to be doing a blood drive. Go figure, my iron level was through the roof! So in the middle of the TWW but at this point, it is what it is!

@bluestriped bee: I also load up on iron supplements before I donate blood. Its the only way I can get past their testing. I've been rejected tons of times before because of low iron.

@LindsayInNY: Do you take multi-vitamins? I believe multi-vitamins, especially the gummy versions that I take, don't have iron in them. I believe it's because they don't want kids to get to them and accidentally each a whole bunch and die from the iron overdose. I would check your vitamins. I heard iron and calcium are two the leave out in multi-vitamins.

I wish I could donate! I went to donate, and they told me since I lived in Germany in early 90s I may be a carrier of mad cow disease since it originated in Europe. Tons of military families cannot donate blood ever again now because of it. Good for you for trying to donate though!

@psw27: This use to happen before I took vitamins. But, ever since, I've never had a problem. I feel like they changed their requirements? I don't remember it needing to be so high.

@LindsayInNY: Oh, everytime, I give blood I load up on iron, calcium and a multi-vitamin. I think I might have had low iron once and they suggested I take an iron pill before donating.

I donate pretty frequently and wouldn't have had any issues donating while TTC, but I casually mentioned it during one of my acupuncture appointment and she told me not to. Just because she didn't want to ruin the balance in my body. If we don't BD this fertile period, I might go donate blood soon and not tell my acupuncturist.

@lindsayinny I am never eligible to donate because of iron -- their standard is apparently higher than even what a doctor would say is borderline anemia (I am not anemic, and take vitamins regularly). I have literally tried to donate blood every year for 12 years and never been able to either because of iron or travel restrictions...

Well this post ended up being unnecessary... Went to donate this morning. Iron level has to be 38 or above. Mine was 37. Missed it by one! I take vitamins every day and everything. I haven't had a low iron issue in years! So weird. Maybe it's God's way of telling me not to donate this cycle... ;)

@MaisyMay: Post-O I don't think of worry as much as immediately before O...

@Foodnerd81: That's my paranoia. I'm gearing up to O this weekend.

I am sure it's fine.

And yet, while we were ttc I started getting paranoid about it. I was supposed to donate very close to my predicted o date and decided not to, just in case. I got pregnant with C probably the day I was scheduled to go. I really truly doubt it would have made any difference but that's my story.

@LindsayInNY: I'd probably do it. I just wouldn't do it right before. Even right after O I"d probably be okay with trying since blood replenishes itself fairly quickly.

The title says it all... Does your answer depend on where you are in your cycle?

From what I've read, it's safe and no one advises against it. But I did read some comments about possible affects on immune system and whatnot as your body replenishes blood and iron.

I was going to donate tomorrow. It would be CD17 for me. I usually O around CD20 so I'm clearly in prime time.
