P is the same way. She will sleep about 12 hours at night, but take very short naps. And, she has been refusing the afternoon nap, too. Even though she is saying "Nap nap nap nap" and signing for milk, and will be super tired after she nurses and then something will catch her eye and she's ready to play. ugh.

So, today she had only 1 nap and it was about an hour long, maybe a little less...

@Rainbow Sprinkles: also agree that she may lengthen the nap once she's used to being up that long in the morning. Right after we transitioned to one nap, LO had about a week of one hour naps before he went to 2-3 hour naps.

I think overall sleep during the 24 hour period is more important than how much sleep if had per interval (if that makes sense). So if you have more night sleep and a shorter nap that is fine as long as they are getting ~13 hours sleep per day.

@Mrs. Pen: completely agree that you should look at total sleep in a 24 hour period. Some kids nap more bc they are waking at night...more broken up sleep.

When we dropped to one nap my LO sometimes slept 1.5 hours and sometimes 3+ hours (I always wake her by 4:00 so she's ready for bed around 7:30)...it varies from day to day but I have no complaints bc she slept 12-13 hours at night. She's 19 months now and naps around 2-3 hours and her night sleep is 11.5-12.5 hours

If it works- I think it's perfectly fine!

That's still 13-14 hours of sleep which is definitely enough for a one year old. @winniebee's son sleeps ten hours at night and them add in naps and its the same as W!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Sometimes on the weekends she will sleep better, but only if I lay down with her for a nap. Even then, unless she is sick she never sleeps for more than 1 hour.

She goes to sleep at around 7:30/8pm, STTN and wakes up usually pretty much right at 7am, or within about 15 minutes of either side of 7am.

I think if it works, go for it!

B is still solidly taking 2 naps, the first is about 30 - 40 minutes and the second is 1 - 2 hours. He is really fussy if he doesn't nap so I don't think we will be going to 1 nap for awhile. B has always been an awful napper, but his night sleep is amazing. He has been STTN since 6 months old consistently.

DS is almost 15 months old. During the week at daycare he "sleeps" for two hours. He usually wakes up once or twice and they have a really hard time getting him back down. So he usually sleeps really great for an hour, maybe an hour fifteen, but then has quiet time for another 45 min to an hour. He sleeps great at night, around 11 hours straight. Everything I read tells me this isn't enough sleep for him but he is never cranky from not enough sleep.

On the weekends he might take a 30 min nap in the morning while we are out running errands and then another hour nap later in the day.

I would say as long as she isn't cranky when she wakes up you should be fine!

I think it just means you're going through a transition phase. I have friends who went through a period where their LO was only sleeping for an hour.

This past weekend, LO slept 2.5 hours straight during her naps. On days where she only had a 1 hour nap, we just moved her bedtime earlier.

My 21 month old takes one nap and it is 1.5 hr at the very most. Sometimes it is 1 hr. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Also, I think 3-4 hr is on the longer side (we should all be so lucky), so I don't think you need to worry about your DD not sleeping that long...

My 1 year old only takes 1 20-min nap a day!! (sometimes she also falls asleep on the way home from daycare, for an additional nap of 15-20 minutes) - so an hour sounds great to me!

As many if you know, we have always struggled with W's sleep. She has always been somewhat of a decent napper, but never naps longer than an hour. Her night sleep is awful.
The past week or so she has been outright refusing her second nap. No amount of crying or nursing or rocking or bottle-feeding will get her to settle into an afternoon nap.

Yesterday, we tried for one nap. I kept her up until 12:30, and then put her down. The end result? She woke up an hour later! I thought she would sleep longer since she would be extra tired. "One nap fail," I figured.

We put her down for an early bedtime since she had been up for so long. A couple shocking things happened.
A) she seemed excited to go to bed. She grabbed her lovey and WALKED HERSELF into her room.
B) she went straight to sleep.
C) she didn't wake up until 3 a.m. she got a quick cuddle from dad and then didn't wake up again until 8:45.
D) that's 13 hours of sleep with one wake up. The best sleep she has ever had in her entire life.

Is it possible she could only need one one-hour nap? I keep reading that one nap babies should be sleeping 2-3 hours. I remember mrs. Bee saying that when Charlie switched to one nap, he would sleep 3-4 hours. What am I doing wrong?
This schedule just seemed to work soooo well and she was so incredibly happy throughout the day.

Does anyone have a one-year old who only takes one hour-long nap?

Is it okay for me to be okay with this?

ETA: if she is only sleeping for one hour (maybe an hour and 15), does that mean she truly isn't ready for one nap?
