@JennyPenny: oh gosh, that's what I'm afraid of!

@hellobeeboston: yes I'd live to hear how it goes!

I always responded well to the regular pill, so I wonder how different this might be...

I just switched to the regular pill after being on the mini pill for about a year. I hated it. I didn't have any problems with weight gain or acne (at least not different from usual) but I had breakthrough bleeding every month. I would have a really heavy period for 7-8 days, then a week later have light period-like spotting for 4-5. It was super annoying!

I just filled the prescription for mine but haven't started yet. My LO is 6 weeks and EBF, not sure if it will affect me but I can let you know! I took the regular pill for many years, and I especially liked that it kept my skin clear!

I used it for about 1.5-2 years before I got pregnant and had no issues. No pregnancy scares - I went off it to TTC - although I was pretty militant about taking it at the same time every day. I also had lighter/no periods which was nice! I also have had the same no-period experience with Mirena so that might just be how my body reacts?

I was on it for 7 years before TTC LO1, as the normal pill makes my blood pressure rise. I had about 3 very light periods per year on it which was great. I think my skin has been a bit better since I came off it, but I was a teenager when I started taking it so it's hard to say. The worst thing, as lamariniere said was that I think it had some effect on my mood - and it definitely killed my sex drive- for all those years I never realised that was the cause!

I took it for about 2 years between my two pregnancies. I hated it. I didn't realize it at the time, but it was making me mildly depressed and lowered my libido significantly. I felt so much better within a month if coming off of it. I will never go back to hormonal BC.

@fancyfunction: ok, good to know. Once a month is preferable to my once/3 weeks situation right now! I think I'll ask for a prescription.

I took the mini pill for years and will prob go back pp. I've had no issues with it at all. Only thing for me, since it doesn't control your period, I got my normal 6-day period each month, skipping a month once in a blue moon.

@josina: thanks! Sounds like it doesn't make things worse, at least. I just want longer cycles (or no periods), without making my acne or weight any worse.

I've been on the mini pill since about 3 months pp. I haven't noticed any issues with it, and haven't gotten my period since starting. (had 2 I think before starting).
I am nursing though and once I quit nursing I'm fine with getting pregnant again. I believe they do not recommend the mini-pill unless you're nursing as it's not as effective.
Weight issues, I weigh less now than I have in a long time but I contribute that to nursing. I've never had great skin, and still don't, I don't think the pill has made any difference.

@Adira: oh wow no period at all sounds pretty awesome! Basically I'd been on the regular pill all my adult life so I'm a lightweight when it comes to dealing with "real" periods!

I've been on the mini pill since 6 weeks postpartum because I'm nursing. I don't have any complaints. It's like the regular pill, except there are no placebo pills and I haven't had my period at all on it, though I am still nursing.

When I went on the mini pill a couple years ago, I was told that it would only be really affective while I was nursing, but this time around, no one mentioned that and the literature doesn't say that either, so it seems to be more effective than it used to be? Not sure about that.

I don't know about the weight issues - I've had trouble losing the baby weight, but I don't know if I can contribute that to the pill at all or just my poor diet. And I have minor acne issues while on it, but nothing terrible.

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the mini pill birth control. My Dr offered to prescribe it last year, since it's compatible with nursing, but I didn't take her up on it then. Now I'm thinking about it, not for contraception, but to manage some of my pre-pregnancy symptoms that are making an unwelcome comeback. I'd been on birth control pretty continuously since my teens to deal with acne, and I loved it. Right now I'm on a 22-day cycle  which is totally unacceptable, my periods are heavy, and acne and weight are creeping back up. However, I read online that many people experience worse acne and weight gain on the mini pill? Was that your experience?

Also, any thoughts on other ways to lengthen my cycles without the pill? 22 days is insane!
