I never had that term used with me but I had lots of spotting during my first trimester. In fact, once when I was across the country and was running (for about 30 seconds) to get out of the rain, I bled for a whole two days. When I got home baby was still healthy and now I have a beautiful baby girl!

I had lots of bleeding the first 20 weeks. Red blood in the toilet bowl and enough to soak my underwear!

Had a healthy baby girl though :)

Just make sure to stay hydrated and try not to worry/stress out too much (easier said than done!). Sending good thoughts your way!

@Mrs. Jacks: Thanks.

@lydg: Glad you have made it to 34! The on call Dr told me the same thing. You just have to wait and either it will be fine or you will miscarry. I know they can't be more definitive but geez those are two totally different things.

@MamaMoose: I'm sure that is why they use the term glad you made it to 22.

@brownie: So glad you had a great outcome!

@jholler25: Agreed that it is the worst term ever. As a first time mom it is really freaking me out. Well along with the bleeding and cramps of course. I appreciate the words your dr relayed to you about it being a bloddy undertaking.

I'm hoping baby is doing just fine while mom is having all this grief. :)

I had spotting during 1st trimester around the time I would have gotten my period. It went away after 1st trimester. I ended up delivering 6 weeks early but the dr has no idea why because my water broke before active labor started.

That is the worst terminology EVER to tell an expecting mother. Yes, when I had spotting/bleeding (which happened multiple times to me in the first tri), the on-call Dr who was not my regular OB referred to it as a "threatened miscarriage." I was horrified at the term. I even asked her about it on the phone and she explained that any time there is bleeding that they refer to it as a "threatened miscarriage." Well my threatened miscarriage is 20 weeks along now, and we saw her causing a ruckus during her Level 2 scan on Friday, and she is doing just lovely.

FWIW, my issues in the first tri were due to a subchorionic hemmorhage (sp?), and then once that resolved, my cervix stayed pretty irritated due to the progesterone suppositories I was on and it would bleed at times. After a later spotting episode, a different dr on call told me something that I wish the FIRST dr on call would have told me and that was, "Pregnancy is a very bloody undertaking. There are a million and one reasons that you can have bleeding in a pregnancy and the baby can be totally fine." Sounds a lot more positive than "threatened miscarriage" and it definitely turned out to be the case for me. I hope it is the same for you and your baby:)

Yes! Sometime between 11 and 15 weeks (I don't remember but we didn't know the gender). We went to the Er. It was our first baby and he was ivf so we had invested alot. He is now 15 months old. Other than food intollerance he is perfectly healthy.

Well I'm still not term yet but I'm 22 weeks so I've passed the highest miscarriage risk period. I had a number of spotting incidents and any time I had to get blood work or an ultrasound the reason written on my chart was always "threatened miscarriage". I think that's the term they use since a miscarriage is what they are most worried it about. But that definitely doesn't mean it's going to happen or even that your doc is expecting it to happen.

I went to the ER at 9 weeks with major bleeding, only 2 days after I found out I was pregnant. I bled for about 5 hours before it finally stopped...I thought for sure I was having a m/c until sono showed a heartbeat. But, they discharged me with threatened m/c and told me to wait it out & miscarry or I could be fine. Longest wait ever...but I had to go on living my life...34 weeks in now shows no other complications!

It has not been a great weekend here and after several calls to my doctor this is the term they are using.

I've been reading online that this term is used whenever there is bleeding during the first 20 weeks (with the cervix closed)...and it seems that it is pretty common. While the commonality isn't making me feel any better I was wondering if any of you had this term applied to your pregnancy and ended up with healthy babies?
