I've had the same thing happen to me as @kjpugs. It is gross, but it does happen. Try not to worry and just do the best you can with clearing your lo's nose out. I hope it gets better. The first few months are so hard! Hang in there.

I've personally sometimes gotten a bit of vomit in my nose while throwing up... it stings and smells and is generally unpleasant! Whenever that happened I'd rinse my nose with water to get it cleaned out more, then blow my nose. So I'm sure sucking any residue out would make baby more comfortable! Nobody likes vomit in their nose! Poor baby :(

I don't think it's a huge deal if it wasn't projectile. Lo had spit up and sour vomit all the time as a newborn. She gained weight and grew just fine. :) I'd just wait and see if it continues or stops now. Maybe if it keeps happening I'd call the pediatrician.

Yes, it happens when I try to top her off and when I don't burp her.

@Maysprout: I think a mixture of both because of the smell. I called the on call ped right before I typed up this and waiting for the call back. He is now grunting (like he always does) and cooing in his sleep with no raspiness, but I will definitely feel better talking to the ped. Thanks for all the responses.

It happens. Clearing out the nose a bit is the best thing.

Was it baby spit up or vomit?

LO had the baby spit up that came out her nose a couple times, I think I used the bulb syringe and wiped her nose up.

If he sounds like he's breathing funny though after you clean his nose you might want to call the ped.

@maybebaby: dd used to throw up out of her nose when she was younger too!
I realized later that it happened because 1, I didnt burp her 2. I over fed her.
They say you can't over feed a breastfed baby, but I did! :P I "forced" her to eat more when she unlatched bc I thought she was still hungry :P

Nose frida was a life saver during the nose throw ups! Definitely get one.

Awe! I always hated that! P spit up/vomited out her nose lots of times with all the tummy issues we had. It always made me feel so bad. Usually she'd be fine as soon as she did & others we'd need to suck her nose some. Poor baby... it's scary but I think it's still in the range of "pretty normal". Hope he's getting some good rest!

LO is 17 days old and has spit up a handful of times but he just vomited up the motherload including through his nose and it scared the &%^$ out of both me and DH--afterwards, he seemed to have a bit of trouble breathing and his little nose sounded all wheezy since there was still liquid in it. Made me realize I really need to get the nose sucker thing :( He had been awake for almost 2.5 hours, and now that he is calm he is passed out, but I am freaking out that it isn't because he was overtired but because the vomit thing did something to him. Please tell me this is normal, I am freaking out and checking that he is breathing every few seconds.
