We got catering trays from panda express. I made boxed funfetti cakes. Family brought cut up fruit. I taped balloons to the stair rail and streamers to our beams and window frames in the entry/dining. We had paper crowns from target and took silly pictures. It was about an evening's work after the kids were asleep, and that's it. We loved it and will probably take a similar approach to their 2nd.

I agree with everyone else-- figure out your budget and purchase items accordingly. If your budget needs to be smaller, see if any family members would be willing to make a cake or a share-able dish as a "gift." In my experience early birthdays are miraculous and beautiful things-- all Lorelei got this year was a cinnamon roll with a candle stuck in it, a few non-helium balloons, and us singing to her and generally making a fool out of ourselves (we were going to have a small family only party with a cake, but Ellie vomited the night before and we weren't sure if everyone was going to be healthy enough to enjoy cake). Lorelei LOVED her "party." And just try to think of things he enjoys. Balloons? Bubbles? Keep it simple, and just know he will love anything that you do because he loves you, and you love him. Happy-almost-birthday, L!

One big trip to Costco/SAM's, grab chips, sandwich tray, fruit tray, pasta salad, a cake, some balloons and call it good! The love will be there, the extras don't need to be!!

you could even use some of the outgrown outfits as decor

@mrsblue posted about it earlier in the week

Costco. Target. I think the cutest additional thing to have is a picture from different ages (even hospital ones). You can just tape them to a wall or board or put them on a string.

If most of your guests you are close to, maybe you can ask everyone to bring food or drinks or a balloon for decor in lieu of a gift?

LB is getting close to one year old and should be out of the hospital and I won't let him miss out on a party, but I have very little time, energy, and sanity to put into planning. Any bees have cheat sheets or tips on throwing a small, low key party with as little work and as much love as possible ?
