I had a really hard time getting rid of my thrush. I found gentian violet, APNO, and really good quality probiotics finally worked.

I had it severely before getting a diagnosis. Went straight to Diflucan, which helped a lot and quickly but didn't completely work despite taking it for 5 weeks. Tried vinegar rinse but couldn't tell if it helped. Switched to GSE drops mixed with coconut oil for nipples and oral GSE tablets and probiotics. It seems gone after 2 more weeks with these.

Baby didn't have it at first. She ended up getting yeast diaper rash and nystatin did nothing for it. Lotrimin cleared it quickly though.

@blackbird: just a heads up that Nystatin isn't a particularly effective in a lot of cases so don't be afraid to ask for a different med of you don't think it's helping! You'll also want to sterilise any bottles, paci's etc everyday to prevent reintroducing thrush - fingers crossed it clears soon!

@Little Misters Mom: I've got some! Been using it for weeks! Looks like that's the protocol especially if I don't have symptoms...yet (fingers crossed I don't get there!)

I'll do a vinegar wash, too, thanks!

@.twist.: ugghhhhhh I do not want to deal with this for months. T's nystatin drops are already 4x a day for 4-6 weeks! Ugh!

Newman's All Purpose Nipple Ointment (APNO). Your doctor can call it in. If you start to get painful symptoms just skip all the natural/OTC remedies and get a diflucan prescription (usually used fro yeast infections). Wash your bras and sheets in very hot water and vinegar.

I washed them with warm soap water after every feed and then let them air dry.

I hope it clearly up quickly! I, unfortunately, only remember glimpses of no-thrush feeds. The rest was all thrush, all the time.

We were both prescribed gentian violet, which did the trick, but then a LC scared me by saying there was research linking it to cancer. So, my doctor prescribed another cream. We had it for quite a long time so needed something heavy duty to shift it once and for all.

@blackbird: I'm sorry! With DS, I got thrush but he never did... I had used nystatin I think on my nipples but the lactation consultant also recommended doing a vinegar wash. I think it was 1tbsp white vinegar with 1 cup water and then I used cotton balls to wipe my nipples. That really helped too!

How did you treat yourself? T has thrush, do he has drops, but I was told just to use lotrimin on my nipples. Just curious what everyone else found helpful before I actually start having symptoms
