You are such a wonderful momma! DD is 4 months old and we've been battling thrush since 2 weeks, I'm glad to hear your pain is decreasing.

I haven't thrown out any milk.

@LivsMama: DS has severe food allergies and all that milk was expressed while I was eating foods he reacts to. I waited until every doctor said we couldn't use it to get rid of it just to make sure :) I didn't dump it....thank goodness! I donated it to a women who adapted a little girl and was trying to induce lactation but it wasn't working for her. Provideding breast milk was very important to her and her husband.

@anbanan15: 1000 OZ?! WHY did you have to dump all of that?! That makes me want to cry for you!

OP - Go with what Kellymom says, I go to that site for EVERYTHING BF related. If you have twitter, you can tweet the question with the hashtag #bfcafe. a lot of IBCLCs search that hashtag and get back to me with questions frequently.

I know how you feel! I had to start my stash from scratch after having 1000+ oz stored. It was traumatic to say the least!

I'd follow the advice on kellymom. I know you cannot refreeze the milk once thawed but I'm not sure about scolding after, sorry I'm really no help. Just wanted to say I understand the emotional pain of it.

it is a nightmare...as if breastfeeding weren't challenging enough! It's not like I stored a lot, but to start from scratch again....argh....

ugh, what a nightmare... but good that the pain is lessening! If I were you I'd do whatever kellymom says to do... that site was my BIBLE during breastfeeding. I'm assuming they say to scald the milk after thawing before feeding to baby. So I would do it with each as I used them... but no re-freezing thawed milk.

I'll wait for others to chime in, because I'm honestly not sure if scalding after freezing works. I read a bit about scalding milk but that was for the main purpose of getting rid of excess lipase and in those cases if the milk was already frozen previously, scalding didnt work

I don't want to refreeze it. I was thinking of thawing my frozen milk, scalding it and feeding it to the baby that day, once it cooled down. Not supposed to?

I think I had a mild case of thrush (never had to get antibiotics) but I did not throw out my milk.

I'm not the expert but I dont think you can scald defrosted breast milk and then refreeze it. From what I've heard you can only scald it fresh and then cool it down and freeze.

Baby Z is 7 weeks old and we were just diagnosed with thrush. She is on nystatin and I'm on diflucan. We're both on probiotics. Do I really need to dump my hard earned freezer stash of pumped milk? Will scalding really kill the yeast, as suggested on kellymom?

We worked hard for that liquid gold!

On the upside, the breast pain has decreased.
