@CarrieLouWho: the thing with lanolin is that it creates / maintains the moist and sugary environment that yeast thrives on! The same goes for breast pads - basically the more air you can get around your boobs, the better!

And just a wee note about Nystatin, it's only effective in 35% of cases so don't hesitate to go back to your Dr if you don't think it's working!

Vinegar is also great for killing thrush and you can wipe a dilute solution on your boobs and add it to a hot wash to kill thrush in your bras etc.

Can you get a prescription for apno instead? I think one of the ingredients is an anti fungal. And it doesn't get everywhere or stain.

Ugh thrush. Yuck. We went through this and got the same recommendation re: no lanolin. I switched to the honest company nipple cream which is made of olive and sunflower oil but is a bit more solid and in a little glass jar. Easier to carry around, but I still had to be really careful about putting in breast pads - I learned that the hard way after ruining two shirts with huge boob shaped oil stains. 😕. I think the earth mama stuff is also made of olive oil.

For the wubbanubbs I boiled water and dipped the tops in - w/the animal part sort of hanging over the side (I used a big pot) but I also stuck them in the washing machine. We have a sanitize cycle that I was hoping got hot enough but I'm not sure if that really worked or not. Since you can wash them, you might be able to throw the whole thing in boiling water (but I'd test one you don't like as much first!)

Good luck!!!

Background - So, I was diagnosed with thrush today, but was told that LO doesn't have it yet (although they told us he has a lip & tongue tie - hooray!).
I was prescribed diflucan and he was prescribed nystatin, we will be on it for the next 2 weeks.
Here are my questions for those that have BTDT -
1. My LC said to stop using lanolin but I should use olive oil instead. I started tonight and I'm not sure how not to get it everywhere. Do you think something like Earth Mama Angel Baby (lanolin free) would be ok?

2. We are supposed to boil all paci's. Any thoughts on how to sanitize wubbanubs?

Any other words of wisdom to get through this?
