My BH didn't hurt, but contractions from dehydration did. Gatorade fixes it more quickly than water. But I really had to figure out how much water I needed (100 oz), figure out how many of my favorite straw cups that would be (5) and set times to finish each one (breakfast, 10am, lunch, 3pm, dinner) plus drink other beverages as I wanted.

This definitely happened to me! My abdomen would get rock hard. I'll second the other posters on drinking lots of water. It was hard for me, because I had HG - and because I'm just generally not very good at drinking water throughout the day. :silly:

If you don't like water, maybe find something else you wouldn't mind sipping on (like Crystal Light or something)? And if you only like cold water, invest in an insulated cup. They make really cute ones now! That's what helped me the most - I got an insulated cup with a straw.

Don't forget to mention it to your doc, too, just in case.

@Mrsbells: I've been upping my water intake... I've always been pretty terrible at hydrating though even when I try really hard so that could contribute for sure.

Thanks, glad to know I'm not the only one! There are so many things that keep happening that no one has warned me about and I feel like I just have to figure it out through google... doctors don't tell you anything!

@T.H.O.U.: @LCTBQE: Thanks, that makes me feel better because everything I read online said BH are painless so I thought that couldn't be it. Definitely not fall-over-screaming kind of pain or anywhere close, just a quick tightening/cramping feeling that passes very quickly.

I have them too! Only once or twice a day but usually if I have gone awhile without drinking water. Mine aren't really uncomfortable. Just a strange tightening sensation.

yep, exactly what @T.H.O.U.: said. I also started getting them around 19 w, and they're definitely not "painless" in the sense I expected.

Sounds like BH.

Mine are more uncomfortable. I think pain free more means like you can still talk and breathe through them.

It sounds like Braxton hicks. I would call your doc with advice on when to monitor them more closely. I had them early and often throughout my pregnancies.

Ditto about the BH, keeping hydrated and keeping my bladder empty were key to keeping them in check (yes, I realize this may be impossible during pregnancy...) mine started early too and she stayed put until after her due date. I was told to call if I had more than 5 in an hour after trying water, bathroom and laying on my side.

Sometimes my BH contractions are uncomfortable, especially when I feel like I am growing. More water! More rest!

Sooo another thing to add to the list of weird things happening all of a sudden... the past few days (18-19 weeks) I've noticed that I'm getting some lower abdominal cramps that are a bit sharp, which in itself didn't really worry me because I've been crampy all through pregnancy so far and know that there's a big growth spurt going on. However I noticed that when it happens, if I put my hand over the area, my uterus suddenly feels rock hard. It lasts maybe 30 seconds and then stops.

Of course I got to googling and then freaked myself out about contractions. I'll check with my doctor this week if it keeps happening but just wondering if anyone else experienced this this early on? I thought maybe braxton hicks, but thought those weren't supposed to have any pain and typically happen later... so I don't know if that's it. I'm not super worried since they're infrequent... but the hardening thing kind of weirds me out. Any thoughts?
