@BabyBoecksMom: I've never seen this picture but this was exactly how D slept as a baby. We did have her looked at "I officially" by a pediatric physical therapist and she said most likely it was because she was like that instead of curled in like a ball fetal position in the womb. she actually recommended us stretching her head down (chin to chest) to help those muscles in the back of her neck stretch out.

@vesyyr: It eventually just stopped and, I don't remember how long it took, but it wasn't long. I'm guessing she was either just getting tired or being goofy.

I'm sorry I don't have more information. I've known a couple of kids that had to have a brace for it though although I don't know much about why. It definitely made me feel better to go to the doctor.

@BelugaBean: Hey,
It´s long time since it happened to your child, but did it just go away and how long did it take? My child is having the same thing you described here and it seems like it is going worse every day. He is doing it more often now. Actually it started while ago but i did not pay much attention to it. I have not talked to any doctor yet as it is weekend at the moment. Can you give me any useful information about it?

The doctor looked her over and says she thinks it's either her thinking it's fun or just playing so hard that she has to take a mini break in the middle. She has no ear infection and she said she's pretty confident it isn't torticollis.

@BelugaBean: I'm the same way..I take LO to the doctor to be on the safe side. Nothing wrong with that. Good luck tomorrow and if it turns out to be reflux related let me know. I hope she's just being a silly girl and likes the feeling of tossing her head around!

@anbanan15: I didn't even think to try to get it on video!

When I looked, it looks more like the videos of torticollis than the videos of Sandifer's Syndrome. I mean, it still may be neither, she may just be exploring. I just feel like it happens a lot and I'd feel a lot better if a doctor looked at her.

@BelugaBean: My LO never had issues with weight gain...he actually has always been around 90th but has severe reflux and Sandifer's. I'm glad you are going to the doctor to get it checked out! I hope it's nothing to worry about and they have an answer for you. Good luck!

ETA: If you can get it on video that will really help your doctor!

@anbanan15: I've always thought she has reflux to some extent and her doctor agreed she might but she has never had any issues with weight gain and now she seems generally happy. She's been doing it at random times the past couple of days. Eating, playing, when she's tired, when she's just woken up, anytime.

@BelugaBean: Does she have reflux at all? I only ask because you mentioned she did this while eating and that makes me think Sandifer's Syndrome, which is caused by uncontrolled reflux. Once the reflux gets under control symptoms resolve. There are some YouTube videos showing it.

@BelugaBean: Our doctor brought this up at LO's 2 month appoinment last week. If it doesnt get better at our 4 month he said we will need to talk about physical therapy. He just recommened putting her in her crib in different positions and encouraging her to look to both sides when she is on her tummy. Good luck and if your doctor has any other ideas to help please share!

I just thought I would update. LO started doing this again yesterday and has done it a lot today. Sometimes she's tired, sometimes she just woke up from a two hour nap and is fully awake. I made an appointment for tomorrow so maybe the doctor can shed some light on what's going on. It's possible she's just exploring how she's looking at things but I'd rather know if it's an ear infection or torticollis if that's what's going on. I figure it's better to be safe and make an unneccesary appointment than to miss something.

She did it this morning while eating to an extent and it seems like she's just playing around. She was smiling while she did it today and she hasn't done it as much so I think she was just exploring a different way to look at things.

This is the best picture I can get. I know here it looks like she's looking at a toy (and maybe that was part of it this time) but she does it in a twitching kind of motion and sometimes there's no toy. Maybe she's just exploring a different way to look at things? She's also been spitting up more though (maybe teething?) and her sleep has been worse.

Our pediatrician never officially diagnosed my LO with torticollis but she did note around 2 months that her neck muscles were much tensor on one side. She showed me exercises to do with her to stretch the muscle and recommended lots of tummy time to increase her neck strength. By her four month visit she was great.

Here is a good pic of what she looked like. It wasn't very super noticeable but the tilt was there. Not sure if this is what your LO looks like.

I didn't even think to try to get a picture of it but I will when she does it again. She doesn't stay tilted but for maybe 10 seconds at the most and she usually contorts her upper body toward the tilt at the same time.

I was going to say the same thing. I actually had torticollus as a toddler. My pediatrician caught it when I was 2. It didn't effect my walking but I sometimes had a lazy eye because of it. I had to get eye surgery to help that and then with physical therapy I fully recovered. I haven't had any issues in the 26 years since ... It's worth looking into!

I was just going to mention the same thing MrBee just mentioned. I had two friends whose babies had muscular torticollis. Both had issues turning their heads to the opposite side of the head tilting.

Ironically enough, these friends had babies at almost the exact same time and discovered the issue at the same time. Both were referred to physical therapists for their babies. One took it very seriously and took her baby to physical therapy 2 times/week while the other just thought it would work itself out.

Now, both babies are 2 years old and the friend who didn't take her baby to physical therapy is now taking him for walking issues. The friend who took her baby to physical therapy diligently didn't have any issues with walking.

I would maybe just give your doctor a quick call. I never like to self diagnose, but it never hurts to ask questions!!

LO has been doing this thing randomly where she tilts her head to her left side and sometimes also contorts her upper body a bit with it. She still seems fairly happy although she's been cranky and her sleep the past couple of nights hasn't been great. We've been contributing those things to the fact that she's had two teeth come in since Thursday morning.

However, could it be an ear infection? She doesn't have a fever. Sometimes she almost seems to do the head tilting when she's pooping too so I don't know if that contributes but it's a new thing if that's why she's doing it. She has to go back to the doctor to get her booster flu shot probably tomorrow so I could ask then. If she keeps doing it though, should I make a sick visit appointment for today?
