That's when we transitioned! Daycare was on a one nap schedule, so we switched. Sometimes she would fall asleep in the car when we were out, but I just made sure that we did lots in the morning to keep her busy. She adjusted pretty quickly!

DS was around the same age when we transitioned - he moved to the toddler room at daycare and so they do only one nap in that room. He still did two naps on the weekends or at my parents when my mom watches him but he started to adjust himself to one nap a day. It was a little rough the first week but it was fine after those first few days.

Sounds exactly like when we transitioned. She was taking great morning naps- anywhere from 1.5 hours to 2 or more, but was refusing the afternoon nap more and more, so she would be awake from 11 am until bedtime. Sucked. I just started pushing the morning nap slowly, like half an hour at a time or just as long as I could push her before she became a cranky mess. Sometimes if that morning nap was short and ended too early still I'd put her in the car or stroller for an afternoon cat nap, I think, as she adjusted. it took a few weeks to find our groove again but it's nice to have a big chunk of time in the morning for activities now. But, I stay home with her full time so I had total control of her schedule, I imagine dealing with part time day care complicates things?

I think you'll be ok if you tried one nap. I ended up transitioning my LO at 13 months because of the same issue you're having: he'd go down fine for the first nap but the second one got shorter and harder to get out of him. Even though he was still tired by the first nap time, I just pushed his morning nap time farther and farther out and put him to bed about 30-40 minutes earlier than usual. That lasted about a week or so.
Even now, 2.5 months after the transition, he is still tired around the original morning nap time, but if I keep him occupied he will stay awake till nap time. I still have to be careful about driving anywhere in the morning, though, because sometimes he'll fall asleep in the car when it's 10am (old nap time; new nap isn't till noon!).

My LO is 13 months and at daycare full time. They switched him to 1 nap from 12:30-2 or 2:30 now, which is much better than the 30 minute cat naps he was taking. On the weekends, he still seems grouchy in the morning so I've been putting him down for a 9 am nap and its usually an hour. He seems to go down fine for his afternoon nap all the same. I think you can drop it though without an issue!

Tell me about how you knew it was time to switch from 2 to 1 nap!

LO is 11.5 mo old, and is one 2 naps at home but started daycare (MWF) a few weeks ago and is on one nap there (it's how the pre-toddler schedule runs). At daycare there's enough going on that she presumably makes it until 12:30 to nap okay (up at 6:30am) but at home she's out like a light at 9am for her morning nap. Lately she's been having issues with her afternoon nap. I've been waking her up from her morning nap (which kills me, I hate waking a sleeping baby!) to protect her PM nap, which was working for a while, but I went from waking at 1.5 hrs, to 1.25hrs and now today 1 hr and she's trying to sleep in her crib but not tired. She gets up and cruises and then lays down again and chills and then up. Which I suppose is better than when she stood up and screamed in protest two days ago against her nap! Is it time to switch her? She's just so tired at 9am! Bedtime is 7pm and I'll probably try to get her to bed a little earlier to compensate, but it's hard with work schedules. And she's always up at 6-6:30am with rare exceptions, no matter what bedtime is!
