Jumper - we had a baby einstein one that she loved, though I didn't retire the playmat until after my daughter started walking, lol! She still liked playing with the toys on it for a long time

Jumparoo for sure. You could get a regular exersaucer that doesn't bounce if you're concerned about their hips (not sure if that's any better though) but they're not as fun! I only let her in it for 10-15 minutes at a time, though. I'm sure it's only a problem if you leave them in for hours at a time. She's 5 months and starting to crawl, so she is much less into it right now and wants to just be practicing crawling. She also loves just sitting up in her high chair playing with toys. She is also obsessed with this elephant that has rattles and taggies and tethers hanging all around it.

We ended up using the play mat until almost 6 months and then she loved her exercauser. I think we started the exercauser around 4-5 months for short periods of time, but I had to stuff a blanket in there to keep her semi-propped up.

Thanks everyone! Looks like we'll have to get a jump through this weekend!

@lawbee11: I haven't heard of that one - I'll have to check it out!

@Mrs. Lion: N is actually starting to not hate (I won't say like just yet :) ) tummy time! I was thinking of doing some sensory activities to keep her busy on her tummy. I just saw one with a Ziploc bag filled with hair gel and little toys that she could squish around while she's on her tummy. I may bemore excited about it then she is LOL

LO loved her jumps too at that age. We also just got some random toys and would put them down beside her. She loved her Oball, her tag blanket, and this stuffed giraffe with things on it's legs and a bell. (Target has a zebra one by Bright Starts.)

I was told by our PT that jumperoos are fine in small doses for kids with no muscle problems (which meant I had to take it away from DS2 which broke his heart :( ), so go for it!

Another vote for the jumperoo! DS loves his. At 4 months he mostly just played with all the toys around it, now at 6 months he's really getting the hang of bouncing!

Jumperoo. Both kids went for hip scans and as long as it's used on occasion and not hours at a time you should be ok. This is what we were told anyway.

Jumperoo! I think as long as you don't plop them in it for hours on end their hips will be fine. My SIL is a orthopedic physio and she never said anything to us about it

DD is four months old and she seems to be getting bored with the playmat. I just set her down on it while I made lunch and she was halfheartedly batting at the hanging toys, it was sad but funny. What did you do for entertainment after the playmat? I'm looking for something that she can do independently but that we could also do with her. I was thinking about a jumperroo, but I've heard that those are possibly bad for their hips?

ETA: as I typed this post she was babbling and cooing at the little mobile that's attached to her playmat. :) So Maybe she's not quite as bored as I thought, but I think we still need to find something soon
