i pump 15 min max and that's long enough to get my second let down. if you're producing enough, i think you can reduce your pumping in the next month or so once your supply has been really established.

I think your pumping sounds very similar to me! I get most of my pumping output in the beginning then it's just trickles for a while, but I keep the pump on until at least after my second letdown. I didn't know about this in the beginning but my second letdown gets a pretty good amount of milk. I also continue to pump past the last drop and DD is almost 6 months since I read that it helps encourage milk production. If you can, try massaging before and during pumping to help the milk move.

As far as nursing, your LO will always be able to keep pulling milk out since the boob keeps making and LO's are very efficient milk extractors. They can pull milk better than any pump out there so even though he can still keep getting milk at 20 minutes, it's ok of your pump cannot. =)

When I pump I get 99.9% of what I'll have at the end of my 20 min session during the first 5-7 minutes. I keep the pump on for the 20 minutes because I'm new to pumping and I figure that it will help increase my supply(that could be hogwash....?). My question is, am I just getting foremilk now, or is this it? Do I just get it all out in the first 5-7 min and the rest is just trickles...? When J eats off of my breast he eats for a long LONG time still (at 6 weeks he eats for about 40 min total, 20 min on each breast) but I know he's still getting milk for that long.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this normal?
