@wheres_c: We booked our flight here at bedtime and she slept most of the way and for the whole drive back to our house from Heathrow. We got home at the end of when her normal nap would be, so we kept her up until bedtime and put her down at her normal time. I'm not going to lie, it's rough. It's rough for about a week.

We live on the west coast and just spent four days on the east coast (3 hours later), and stayed as close to our normal schedule/time zone as we could. It worked great at night, but in the morning there was so much light coming into our room that my little guy woke up 2-3 hours earlier than I wanted, and I could only get him back to sleep for another hour or so. Fortunately, since it was a short trip, he didn't get too sleep deprived, and he's right back on his usual schedule now that we're home. (Just in time for daylight savings time, whee!)

going from east to west since easier for some reason. we went from calif to hawaii with a 3 hour time difference, and the first day we did try to keep her initially close to her bedtime, but we kept upping the hours as each day went on, so by the 3rd day, she was on Hawaii time. she had no issues. it was the going back to california time that she had a hard time adjusting to, and it took a good week before we were able to get her back to her regular schedule.

@zippylef: Yea that's probably the best bet but a 5pm bedtime is going to be hard. =\ I guess we will try our best! This is our first time traveling so I am a completely newb.

We did London to St Louis and back when C was 8 and 9 months old, which is a 6 hour difference. Going there was WAY easier than going home. We were there for 6 weeks, so staying on our time zone wasn't possible.

I would say for 6 days and only a 3 hour difference, I would probably keep her on her schedule too.

@Honeybee: @sunny: Thanks for the tips! I guess it's more common to keep the kids on their own time zone. This might be tough though because DD is 13 months and bedtime is at 8pm EST, which is 5pm PST (!). She also usually wakes at 630am EST which is 330am PST (!!!). Oh this is going to be bad....

When we did cross country from West Coast to East Coast, we kept LO on the same time. It was easy since she was used to going to bed around 11pm PST, which was 8pm EST.

I'm not sure how I'd do this the other way around though!

When we took DD from CA to NYC at 15 months, we kept her on her regular time zone. We were gone for two weeks, and besides DH and I getting confused about what "time" it was on occasion, she did great. Now we always try to keep the kuds on their time zone when we travel.

We are flying out from NYC to Cali next Thursday so DD can meet her great grandma (my dads mother) and I am getting nervous about sleep with the 3 hour time difference. Cali is 3 hours behind NY and we are flying out at 715a which means we have to wake DD and head out to the airport at 445a (yea I should have planned this better sigh). So I'm already waking DD 2 hours before her usual wake up, and we arrive in Cali at 1130 PST. I'm worried about the time change and how DD may crash on the first day from everything. Plus we are only there for 6 days.

Should I be making any changes to her nap/bedtime now to prepare for the trip? When we get there, should I do her schedule based on PST, EST, or just read her cues? Any tips for helping them deal with this change?
