A - 39 weeks. 12 hours from water breaking to baby

K - 38w6d 4 hours from water breaking to baby.

There were no signs for either labour but I knew K would be early as I was going to be induced at 39 weeks either way due to medical issues for me. I was super happy he arrived on his own though

DD2 induced at 38+5 and barely 1cm when we started. 4 hours from start of pinto in, pushed 3 times. Went from 3cm to crowning while getting my epidural. She was comfy in there, but once they broke my water she flung herself outta there!

@littlebit7 with my fast labor, I had actually had tons of contractions starting about 23 wks and was on bedrest for a while for a shortened/funneling cervix. I mean nonstop contractions and baby was soooo low. Baby ended up not coming till 39wks, at my appt the week before I think I was dilated like 1.5cm? Personally, I think all my contractions/shortened cervix contributed to my labor being so fast.

@Littlebit7

With my second. I actually had a appointment that morning and midwife checked me. She said I was closed as can be and wasn't going into labor anytime soon and had me schedule my next few appointments and confirmed the potential repeat csection date. I went into labor that night. She wasn't the midwife on duty when I had the baby at 5 am but she came in to hospital at 7 for shift change. She said, "this has never happened to me" haha

1st: 41+2- had to be induced, 24 hour labor and ended up with csec bc she refused to come out.

2nd: 37 weeks- contractions started at 2am. Got to hospital around 3. Baby was born by 5. No time for epidural bc he came so fast.

3rd: praying I don't have this baby on the side of the road somewhere.

@Littlebit7: with my first, there were no signs. I never had even the Braxton Hicks stuff. I had my 39 week appointment a day early, and I was 1 cm dilated, but the doctor said that doesn't really mean anything and it could still be weeks. But I was in labor 24 hours later.

The second time, I started having braxton hicks/prodromal labor around 36 weeks, so I asked to be checked at my 37 week appointment. My practice doesn't typically do checks until 38-39 weeks, but I told them I was carrying so low I wondered if I was already dilated. I was already dilated to a 3. A week later, I was a 3.5, and I had been having serious prodromal labor that entire week. I told my OB I was having trouble sleeping and he suggested I drink a glass of wine at night "to relax the uterus" so I could sleep, haha.

The next morning, I went to work and finally the prodromal labor turned into real labor and then it all happened SUPER fast from there.

But my water never broke either time.

@Littlebit7: Based on the positioning of my cervix, my midwives felt I was likely to need to be induced again and that I was possibly someone who just doesn't dilate on her own. The one who delivered me literally said "Are you kidding?" when she walked into the room and saw it was me in very active labor. I had prodromal labor beginning around 36 weeks but my midwives said that doesn't predict early delivery. I wasn't dilated any more than 1/2 inch with #2 until the day of and none of the other things either. With #1 I was 2 inches for a few weeks. I feel like #2 was sort of an anomaly birth: it went against everyone's expectations and I had zero indication it was coming. The day before was my first day of maternity leave and I was looking forward to 2 weeks of being home with my daughter and relaxing and making freezer meals before delivering. I spent the entire day walking around the zoo so maybe I forced myself into labor!

for those of you posting...did you at least have some idea that baby might come early? Like at your doc checks...were you dilated and effaced and all of those things that might suggest labor was happening earlier than the due date?
I was induced at 41 weeks and still wasn't dilated or effaced on induction day so i sorta knew baby wasn't making an appearance early
With number 2 i feel so in the dark!

DD1 was born one day before my due date. Long slow Labor but it didn't really intensify until the end.

DD2 was born on her due date, super fast birth. Less than four hours from "hmm maybe this is Labor" to baby in arms. No time for an epidural but I definitely didn't need one since it was so fast (and I didn't have one with my first anyway).

@mrsbubbletea: I was convinced my second would be early since "second babies always come earlier!" So when my due date came around I felt like she was already late! But at least Labor was way faster.

DD2: 40 exactly; got to the hospital after a night of irregular and bearable contractions at 7:05am and was only 2cm, water broke on own about 8:20am while walking the halls, first really intense contraction at 8:55am, delivered at 9:53am (20-ish minutes pushing). Prepared for fast and furious if we have a third--especially after dilating so quickly!

Kid 1 came at 39 weeks exactly. Water broke in bed, 8 hrs labor.

Kid 2 came at what OB said was 38w5d but I think it was actually also 39w exactly. Water broke in bed, 8 hrs labor.

Sounds exactly the same on paper although I actually had to get pitocin with kid 2 (or else they threatened to send me home from the hospital). He arrived maybe 1 hr after they gave me the pitocin, so it might have been longer if I had pushed to go naturally.

I was induced both times but for very different reasons and at different times:

LO1 I was induced at 37 weeks due to low fluid. Hadn't dilated at all

LO2 induced at 41 weeks. I was pregnant an entire month longer!! I'd dilated to 2 inches a couple weeks before but then stalled and wasn't progressing; turns out cord was wrapped around her head so she wasn't going to budge on her own.

2nd 39w5d

Sooo, despite my not so secret wishes that baby two would be fairly early too, she came just a couple days before her due date.

Labor for both my boys came naturally.

DS1 38w6d
DS2 38w4d

Both active labors lasted around 8 hours. Pushing for #1 took 1 hour, for #2 took 15 minutes.
