Don’t make career decisions based on a theoretical baby. You might get pregnant quickly but you might not. So I would not delay your career yet.

Agree with what everyone said above - TTC when you're ready and if there are job complications you can deal with those if/when they come up.

I got pregnant with my daughter the first month trying and tried to plan my second pregnancy to fit with life plans and events. Needless to say - it took over a year (including a pregnancy and miscarriage) to get pregnant the second time.

Just echoing all of the above to go for it when you feel ready. We’ve had a few people get pregnant not long after being hired, and it’s not a big deal at all. 12 weeks just isn’t that long for someone to be out of the office in the grand scheme of things if you’re not a temp employee or grant funded.

I will add to the chorus, don't plan your life around getting pregnant. Also learning a new job will be a great distraction if you don't get pregnant immediately. It took us a year and that was with RE help.

The only thing I think should come into play is you and your husband being ready. Work will figure itself out if you get pregnant right away. And if it takes a while you will be so sad you waited additional time. We had a first try first baby and it took us 9 months with the second, we had a health thing in there and it took 8 long months of trying. (Not that long compared to others but every month feels like forever) you just never know how ttc will go

Yeah I wouldn't wait. You may get pregnant right away no issue or it may take you 6 months to a year or more. You never know. Just go for it.

You'll be pregnant for 9 months. If you took the job in January/February, you'll still have until October/November to "earn your stripes" and that's assuming you get pregnant immediately.

Agreeing with all of the above... I tried to time my first and it took two years to get pregnant. It's a crap shoot. It could take one cycle or many. I wouldn't worry about work, especially since it's the same company.

Don’t wait. You’re in an enviable position to be able to advance your career and TTC at the same time which not everyone has.

I would go for it, particularly with an internal move. You will have time to build a reputation in nine or more months, depending on when you get pregnant. Anecdotally, I became pregnant immediately after a big promotion and because of my history with my employer there were no negative feelings (not that there should have been in any situation, but it was a comfort).

Don’t make life plans based on potentially getting pregnant. What if you don’t take the job and it takes you six months or a year to get pregnant? Or what if you do take it, and wait six months, and THEN it takes you six months or a year? I would go for the job, and then try to get pregnant, and people will understand.

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about timing TTC with job stuff regardless of whether it's an internal move or a move to a different company. Life happens, I think most rational bosses and companies understand that. Also, it's hard to really know how long it will take to get pregnant. It might be quick--hopefully! But it also could take some time. The only consideration that might make sense is you typically need to have worked somewhere for a year in order for FMLA to apply to you, and there may also be a certain amount of time you need to work to qualify for short term disability, if your job offers it. However, I believe an internal move would make those points moot, because you've already worked for the company for over a year. And if you're not based in the US, ignore all that, haha.

ETA: for context, I had my son almost exactly two years after starting at one company, and I'll be having my daughter less than two years after starting at another. My supervisors have all been happy for me and supportive, no issues!

i have a tendency to overthink things, and need a gut check.

im going on 4 years married, my husband and I own our home, are happily settled down and have been talking about when we’d like to start TTC for a couple of years now. I will be 30 next year.

ive been at my current company for a year and a half, and while I like it, I know it’s not forever. However, i would like to have my first baby while at this company, rather than starting the clock over somewhere else to earn paid maternity leave.

ive been off BCP for 1 month, but we are not yet trying. I would theoretically like to start after the holidays. After I quit the pill, I found out about a job opening with another team in my office. This would be a promotion / transfer in the same office, working with many of the same people just for a different boss. I’ve known the boss and have worked with her for 6 months, and have known the leaders above her for my entire 18 months with this company.

if I take the job in the new year, am I still able to TTC or will it be frowned upon to take the job in January and have a baby at the end of 2019? I really don’t want to delay…but I’m not sure if I should treat an internal move like I would a job at a different company and “earn my stripes” first ☹️
