Baby was about 4 months old and had gone a whole day without pooping, so the nurse said this was straining. She said to call back if this happened again, but it didn't. But I would watch very closely and if you see it again (or if M has other symptoms like fussiness, gassiness, excessive spit up) I would talk to your doctor about possible food intolerances. I could talk about it for days. We collected stool samples and had them tested, had bloodwork done, eliminated dairy from my diet, it was a huge stressful ordeal that really ended up being nothing/unexplained. We just went to the Ped office today for a well baby and our Ped brought it up. He noticed a tiny little tear from straining and he said if we ever see blood in her stool to check for a tear first. It was sitting on top (not sure if that makes sense). It was not dark--more bright red. I just happened to catch it out of the corner of my eye. She doesn't have a fever and is otherwise her happy, smiley self. Is a tiny amount of blood in a baby's diaper ever normal? Like maybe from straining to go to the bathroom? When I wiped there wasn't any blood on the wipe. Her ped's office is already closed for the day. </p> <p>Has anyone experienced something similar? </p>
